I was looking for a GPU for video editing (possibly light gaming in the future) and stumbled upon this which is £20 cheaper than I can find anywhere else. Strange thing is what looks like the identical GPU is being sold on the same website for £22 more. Went on Laptop direct chat with a representative and they couldnt tell me what the difference was between both

Looks like a good price. I compared the other listing you mentioned and I can't find any difference either.
Perhaps it's a minor bios revision or a SKU from a different region.

Would this be a reasonable upgrade for my 5850. I know it's ancient but it just about does me, just looking for something to keep me going.
well recently i stumbled in asus warranty for gpu cards, i have bought a 1050ti from abroad ,i contacted asus for support as the gpu had random freeze ups and i got an answer that they dont support warranty directly to end customer and i need to contact the shop purchased for rma process , in between this was gonna take far more than 2 months to be completed while asus playing me for a fool ,i wont buy asus and even though this is a tempting price i would reccomend to avoid any further interaction with their support process.

Um yeah it will be miles better
It's easier to quantify if you say a specific game, but yeah it will be way better
Good for crypto, how much MH/s?!!?

Just kidding! Great deal for a good card, this’ll tide many gamers over for a while without breaking the bank and runs nice and cool too.

Huge performance gains and drastically more efficient (I'd estimate 2-3x the performance with far more consistent frame rates whilst using half the power). You've done well to keep going on a 5850 but it's definitely time to let it go, this would be an ideal upgrade on a budget.

Thanks guys, just wanted to be sure. Didn't want to spend money on something that might not have been worthwhile.
Good find!
I tried to order this from here twice. Order got cancelled following day both times

Anyone managed to get one?

Good price have heard terrible reviews of Asus' warranty but surely worth a punt if your after an upgrade to a cheap card. Does well in lots of games at 1080p!
paid for some gpus off this company last month and then a week later (when YOU contact them) say, oh sorry we dont have it in stock, even though it said in stock at the time, and then take a nice slow time refunding you. ejits.
Prices almost returned to sane levels.

Though it was only 12 months ago that we had the vastly more powerful 1060 6GB for £156.... so prices still have a way to go.

It's a downward trending market, so no vote from me.
Just purchased a GTX 1050 Ti from Amazon for £195. Could I have saved £60?

I'd stick with what you have , at least with Amazon easy returns and no hassle with stock issues , I have tried to order stuff from laptops direct in the past , never again

There are definitely better deals to be had than that.

What crypto currency ??? This is nice for Etherium. My 970 does 2.5 MH on Etherium. The Vega 64 does 38 MH.. Vega has paid for itself in 16 weeks + covered electricity.

I'm not entirely sure Asus are at fault when you bought one of their GPUs abroad, which made claiming on the warranty a PITA when you were back in the UK.

well in accordance to their website they dont state that i need to return an item to reseller to have a warranty claim ,they claim to change policy recently but yet if you check their website there is no mention of those minor details ,while i ve got support from other competive companies as msi ,evga and gigabyte efficiently and with no fuzzle as an end consumer. For me this is a strong reason to avoid a company in a competitive market .And this is not the first time that i met asus support to be dissapointing( asus laptop problem with bios claimed from them to be due to unauthorized update of windows ...) really good price but no support is a no no no.

I was joking tbh - asking on a GPU thread here about crypto performance is like a red rag to a bull. But yes if I was serious I would mean Ethereum and it’ll do about 14-15MH/s at 40W which is efficient for sure. Vega 64 will do 45MH/s and 56 about 38MH/s but you’d put a Vega on Cryptonote like Monero not waste it on ETH.

No, a 980 is almost twice as fast.

Yeah it's a trick they do all the time, have good prices and no stock, I suspect it's to drive traffic to their site, then try sell you something else, happened to me a while ago.

Amazon Warehouse so probably had one or two so hardly comparable.

Yea I'm sceptical, either he got the vega 64 dead cheap or he doesn't pay for electricity. Payback is typically 5+ months.
Prices are dropping due to the next generation of GPUs by Nvidia being released later this year, so retailers are getting rid of any leftover stock.

Anyone with a Vega should be on Cryptonote coins unless they don’t care and really want Ethereum.
Really good card if you’re looking to run games at 1080p on decent setting at 60fps and beyond.

Depends on when if it was Eth. If he'd moved onto other coins, 0xbitcoin was paying $20+ per 1080ti/day last weekend. I assume similar with a Vega.

userbenchmark

If anyone wants to compare their current card, just type your card in on the right. Ignore the main score as that's also based on market share and value, which aren't gonna give you better performance. But average user bench and game fps are giving you real world results for an accurate comparison.

1050ri will do 13mh/s

970 will do around 18mh/s with correct drivers.

Just in case anyone was actually interested :P

125pc better says this!

gpu.userbenchmark.com/Com…680

That said.i just bought a 2nd hand 7870 for 55 quid on ebay for my son ( same as 270x ) so you could also try a 7970 3gb for 90 quid or so too

I like the way amd still supporting these cards with enhanced sync and gcn architecture used in ps4 so programmers will optimise for it fingers crossed

I got my Vega 64 just under £290.. minus VAT .. Yes I do pay for electricity and it cost just under £90. So that's £390 MAX..
.. Etherium is current $800'ish. So my quoted time frame is correct.
A Vega64 for £290 is dead cheap.

I'm the same as you. I have 2 x 5850's (separated into two machines) and am interested in getting another GPU.

The longevity of these cards have been great!
Watch out for DVi-D connections, I had DVi-I on my old card. My screen being VGA, I did not find a VGA / DVI-D adapter. So I opted for HDMI! the card is excellent !! she does not heat. It is programmed by default to activate the vantillo at 70 ° (modifiable)
