Found 7th May 2015
My son has just bought this. Looked an OK deal at £149.99 now its down to £135.00 on ebay through Tesco Outlet.

Yes its refurbished but 2 minutes in the hands of my son and any new gloss would have worn off!

Hopefully it won't be a lemon when it turns up, we looked at a few places and this looks to be a good price especially with 12 months warranty a few sites look to only give 3 on refurbished kit.

Its basic but he can play terraria on it. Gets ok reviews

Fantastic price and a great find

looks reasonable for the money, but calling it an ultrabook seems a bit of a stretch

NOT an ultrabook.

I'm using one to post this. For the money this is an excellent small laptop. Good screen, reasonable speed if all you want is web browsing and word processing type of applications. 4 GB of RAM means after loading the OS and browser etc you still have close to 2GB of unused memory for applications. It's not an official Ultrabook but it does give a reasonable feel for the overall size of the laptop. I've recently loaded Windows 10 Build 10074 and it copes with the next generation version of Windows very well.

It's a netbook at best.

it's not a netbook or an ultra book.

looks a good deal though

Intel's definition of an ultrabook: Core i class CPU [fail], SSD [fail], unibody design [fail]. What we have here is a netbook.

Pretty sure on the asus site its labelled as a netbook

Yeah its a nice bit of kit. I paid £300 for the AMD touch screen model a year ago, and while i wouldn't pay that much, it does the basics and does em well. Shove a 120gb/240gb SSD in there for another £40 - £70 and you have a good quick machine for web browsing and word processing (maybe with a little light gaming on the side)

Its none of the above, its a blue computery thing that will keep my lad hopefully happy while playing some naff game but he also insists will help with homework. No need to be so pedantic about the title, people can see what it is or isnt.

I just copied the title from the link for this I apologise I dont want to misrepresent the product.

How does this compare to the HP 255G3?

Could someone please tell me how this would compare to an HP Steam? £180 in Currys.

Cheers.

Well Currys, I would pay the extra 50 quid not to go into Currys.

Use a dongle, mifi, tether your phone data to it. Not hard really.

Does any one have an opinion of this or the X205ta? The X205ta fits my requirements but it would be perfect if it had a slightly better spec but for that the price over doubles. There is no in between i can find.

Why do you need a sim card for a laptop? Have you not got a smart phone?

Nope, it's labelled as a notebook/ultrabook.

If it made me tea, I'd have it.

I've ordered one for my 10yr old, ideal for him to use for homework and the games he plays.

Is Tesco ebay outlet exempt from Tesco staff 10%. No real way to use the staff card, but any way to claim back?

Is this the touchscreen model?

Yes it is my boy is a very happy camper

Couple of questions:

- How long does the battery last on this?
- Does it have an SD card slot?

Thanks,

Oos now. Glad I bought it at 1800 today since some laptops on ebay with similar specs were getting more bidders. 3 left at that time.

Refurbished dont make me laugh , 11 inch screen and a pishy 5400rpm 500gb hdu.
Then to add insult to injury a Celeron processor cmon you have to be kdding when you can get a Lenovo brand new for £160 sovs.
Second hand battery probably the one thing that makes a laptop portable with no guarantee of how long it will last hmmmh
Any other IT engineers laughing at this one>?
Battery life, heavy use 2hr 30min and thats with a new battery!!

No offence meant Dazzler - nice try but no balloon.

Asus are by far the biggest failures i get into my workshop the hard drives are woefully inadequate and fail at the slightest buff of wind and as for build quality well you pays your price you takes your choice but ma auld gran always said pay cheap and you pay twice and it generally holds true.

And people still fall for these deals.

Looks great value, and refurb generally means someone has opened the box then changed their minds, I'd be surprised if the battery has seen much action.

No offence taken. I have had a myriad of latops over the years and have had few problems apart fro some dross battery life.......but that was before my kids got their grubby hands on them and before I know it I have pixie toolbars and more programmes running in the background than I can shake a stick at.

This appears to be a decent little netbook/notebook/ultrabook/laptop that he has paid for so will hopefully be more respectful of!

I do like the concept of hotukdeals but so many deals/threads get snubbed by people who have never experienced the product and just feel the need to moan and then recommend a much better product at a much higher pricepoint.

Anyway my sons loving it but no doubt he will hate me in 13 months

Just about every computer deal will bring out this sort of people. The usual "Pfft! No backlit keyboard!", "Not full HD. cold.", "No SSD!? Medieval!", "If only you spent twice the price you'd get something better!". They seem to lack objectivity and the point of this site. "Is it useful to *someone*?" and "For that someone, is this a good price for them to pay?". Where as the criteria for many seem to be "Is it something *I* want? and is it at a price I'm willing to pay? If no then cold."

Its a BUDGET laptop, and at a bargain price! Didn't you read that? If its so bad, why is it such a hot seller, even at its full price, and why did every major PC mag give it such a good review, especially about its build quality? A battery life of over 3 hours is fine for anyone not planning to tug it around too much, as long as there is a nearby mains socket. Its a lot more life all laptop batteries had not so long ago. Millions of laptops use Celeron CPUs because there is a market for them, or do you know better than Intel? If you are an 'IT engineer' you should know that Asus is the world's 5th biggest computer manufacturer, but does NOT make hard drives.Like others, such as Lenovo, they have to buy in from one of the 4 manufacturers. Perhaps you are snagging HDDs because you don't know the easy fixes for them. If Asus is so bad, why does PCPro list 4 Asus laptops in its 2015 list of the world's best? As for what your your 'auld gran' always said, did she not tell you not to spend a penny when a halfpenny would do? If you are not looking for bargains, what are you doing on the site? Just here to criticise deals that of no interest to you? I do know some who pay more when they could buy the same for less. They are covered by another old saying!
As for this deal, of course it is a good one at around half price. As has already been mentioned, most TESCO refurbs are as new, apart from the packing, and have never been used, which is why they give a 12 months warranty. Heat to the OP for spotting a good deal.
If you expect us to believe you know where ANY new Lenovo can be bought for only £150 why don't you post it, becaus Lenovo don't list anything for under on their website?

Solid deconstruction of that critiscism. Well done sir.
Though I think his original argument is undone in the first sentence. Blanket deriding all things refurbished, 11" and 500gb is beyond ridiculous. Bit like going "All you tens of millions of people....you're all wrong!".
If it wasn't for his profile having the appearance of being genuine (aside from the slightly unbelievable claims of qualifications), I would have thought he was trolling.

They look to be in stock to me, might have got more in. Just to confirm had mine since Friday. My youngest hasn't managed to blow it up and despite only having 500GB memory and 4GB of ram - it still is working!

My eldest is now making noises about wanting one but don't want both my kids hating me when this one fails in 13 months which an IT expert earlier in the thread assures me will happen.

You are joking of course! ONLY 500Gb hdd, and ONLY 4Gb? I did see earlier a comment from someone claiming to be an 'IT engineer' (whatever that is,supposed to mean) but it certainly was not from 'expert'. Don't worry about it failing. Nobody gives a 12 months warranty on a product that is likely to fail in 13 months. Its a bargain, so grab another while you can. Then, in the unlikely even that either of them fail after the warranty expires, just take it to bits, put the parts and the windows 8 on Ebay, and I'd be surprised if you do not get most, if not all of your purchase price back.
