Mine just arrived. RAM is 8G x 2 so 16GB.

Cracking deal but anything over 1060 is overkill for 1080p in my eyes

1060 6gb is a decent card but this laptop has 144hz screen so would definitely benefit from the 1070

Yes it does.
Will it play fortnite?
Good... good.. good... ohhh 8GB of RAM. Oh dear.

Edit: this has been confirmed as 16GB, so it's a good deal.

I was playing Anthem on Origins with 8GB of RAM, only hitting low-medium settings. Realised it reccomend 12GB. Upped my RAM to 16GB and it ran in high-ultra.

It does make a big difference nowadays.

Easy upgrade.. in regards to this laptop not sure if it's a good deal. I got a gl702vm end of 2016 for £1100 which came with a 1060 and 16gb ram.

Price is good on paper for a 1070 in this however the next geforce series is now out, so these should get lower very soon?

not really for two simple facts:
1. LAPTOPS 1070 is faster then more expensive laptop rtx 2060
2. they will stop making gtx laptops so they can sell more expensive turings

It’s a good spec but it should really come with 16GB RAM (I think that’s the point people are making) - given the GPU has the same amount of VRAM and it’s such a cheap fix. Probably the cheapest 1070 laptop out there, will be good for a few years as long as long as there is sufficient cooling - something Asus keep dropping the ball on.

Thermal throttling still?
Good deal as the 1070 on par with the 2060 which are all around 1500.Game dependent of course. Stick another 8gb in this though.

I need something for work that'll do autocad. This or an aero x15, I know this is a lot cheaper but I'm not sure as the battery life isn't as good.

My rule of thumb is, if it can't get 1080p60 Ultra in Witcher 3 then it's not going to be a top tier 1080p GFX card for many more years.

For this money you could buy an Xbox and a surface Pro. What am I missing regarding gaming laptops?

What DealDog said plus gaming laptops are perfect for data analysts who need to number crunch large data sets. The surface pro is pants for that.

Pretty sure that is a spec error. 16GB is on every other laptop online with that model. Plus it says DDR5 when the RAM is DDR4.

Bought it - been looking at approx £1000 laptops for some time, I can barely find a decent 1060 for that, let alone 1070. Hopefully you are right ^^^^^ about the RAM error.

If not - where is the best place to pick up compatible RAM upgrades for this?

This is flatter and it has keys.

Surface pro is flatter than a laptop and fitted with keyboard case.
Is this i7-7700 or i7-7700HQ?

Going by ASUS's site: asus.com/uk/…ns/

It's the i7-7700HQ which is the mobile version, not the i7-7700 which implies the desktop chip.

The beauty of hindsight, huh?, lol.
Just a note, not 100% sure if this will still be the case but I bought this laptop last year from Currys, it was advertised as having 8gb of RAM but actually had 16, looking at the model number it is I think this should be the case for this one too!

So, with that in mind, you got a better dooooooozy than that of what (last Year), you literally paid for, huh?, lol.

Good for you. :-D

Ps.
I'm sure you were chuffed at the time? (consider you probably paid around the £1000+ mark at the time too, etc?). :-)

Isn't i7-7700 an old processor (2016)? I mean will it not be the bottleneck in this fairly fine spec'd laptop (for the price)?

doubt it, but it depends on what you intend to use it for, for gaming the gpu will always be the bottle neck(unless you have a really old cpu maybe 2012ish?)
