I'd still take this tbh, especially if using for work and play. The MSI looks like a big black brick compared to this.
At a grand personally I’d be looking for a minimum of a 1660ti for a gaming laptop
Expectation now is the RTX2060 laptops should be hitting the £999 mark which was announced recently by Nvidia...would hold off for now till that happens.
Saying that this is a lovely laptop with amazing cpu and battery life!

For anyone looking for the model with the led front - I don’t think this has that despite the description.
Looks great.... Unless you need to do video calls!

You may not know but this is a limited watt GPU . It is 45w to 60w I believe. And a normal gpu laptop of this spec would run around 90w. So it will be power performance than you will see in benchmarks etc. Gotta think which ones best for you: better GPU or better CPU in this model.

How different is playing games on a 14 ?
The model up is getting rave reviews.

Nonsense, 4 cores is already falling out of favour. Nonethelesss the price of this particular one doesn't seem great. I would wait for alternatives such as the Dell G5 15 with Ryzen 4000 CPUs..

I rather have 4 cores with a 1660ti then 6 cores 1650. The same site is selling another laptop with ryzen cpu+.16gb ram + 1660ti for £1100
I have an alienware 51m laptop. It has a desktop i9-9900, 32GB RAM, desktop Geforce 2080. Still tempted by this as a portable gaming machine. Good find OP

I would have neither honestly. The Dell laptop should be around £1000 for a 4600H + 1660 Ti, or possibly a 4800H, so its worth waiting another couple of weeks for that if someone is in the market for one. Should be launcing towards the end of the month.

Should have a 1650S for this price really.
Think you’re paying a premium here for the smaller form factor than anything else (not seeing any other 14” devices with this level of graphics or processor) so I’d expect the larger 15” models from other vendors to come along with a 1660ti for similar or less than this.

This G14 is designed to be more of a thin and light portable laptop as opposed to purely focused on gaming.

However a better altenrative to the HP one you linked is this ASUS A15 below. For an extra £100 you're getting:
8c/16t Ryzen 4800H which is all around superior
1TB SSD vs 512GB
16GB 3200Mhz ram vs 8GB that most likely runs at 2666 if not 2400
GTX 1660 Ti vs 1660
Better battery life due to more efficient CPU

Ignore the 120hz, these are also 144hz.

Actually 90% of gaming laptops are super ugly. I can only think of the razer blades as eye catching devices.

But aren't you buying something to use it rather than look at it? Or you can just buy a dead macbook or razer to enjoy its aesthetic qualities

At this point getting a 3750H gaming laptop is pointless with the new gen of CPUs out which are vastly more powerful. If you're already spending £1100 it is worth it just to stretch another £150 for the additional specs.

People who want thinner/lighter 14" will go for the G14.

What uses 32Gb. Unless you have huge development suites open and running an Oracle database on it I really struggle to see how you could use more than 16GB (or 8 really). Obviously games won't use 32 as then most of their customers wouldn't be able to run it.
These AMD chips crush intel it seems, not sure why people are linking to a bunch of different format intel laptops as alternatives.

That is a very good point, in that specialised apps can use lots of RAM (ie Lightroom or Oracle). It would be useful if someone who knows could make a list of memory heavy apps and make sure someone who just gets a PC for gaming doesn't waste money on things like 32GB if RAM.

If you're not doing heavy video encoding, 3D rendering or the like then 16GB is more than plenty, which is most likely about 95% of people out there. I use the adobe suite yet I've never foudn 16GB lacking so yea. 32+ is really only for power users and those people would know that they need that much anyway.

Here is a review of the laptop with a 4600H + 1660 Ti, they also have a 4800H + 2060, battery life should generally be in between them, and significantly better than Intel counterparts.
