This may be a local deal, but with the "50% off marked price" offer, this brings this router in the price range of an RT-ac86u.

If you can deal with the gamer aesthetic, this looks like an incredible deal

Is this better than the ac86u then?
50% off? This was almost £300?!
Checked Amazon... Over £400 lol
RT-AC86u is a 2017 model with 1.8 GHz dual core Broadcom processor and dual band 3x3 wifi radios.
ie. 2.4 GHz + 5 GHz wifi radios.

RT-AC5300 is an older 2015 model with slower 1.4 GHz dual core Broadcom processor and tri band 4x4 wifi radios.
ie. 2.4 GHz + 5 GHz + 5 GHz wifi radios.

Alternative Merlin AsusWrt firmware is available for both AC86u and AC5300 model
asuswrt-merlin.net/about

Note Asus also started selling a similarly named GT-AC5300 with 1.8 GHz quad core Broadcom processor from 2017. No Merlin AsusWrt software for it.

This is an amazing price. Bought it for twice as much couple of years ago! It’s a fantastic router!

Does this router do advanced things like plex media server or torrent clients?
No. It’s route not a computer. You have ability to control individual device -restricted block access- times allowed- good for parental control. Good router- you need other devices- to use plex and torrent client.
Can I get Sky Atlantic on this?
I noticed this includes a “game accelerator” my son is always complaining that his Fortknight isn’t as good looking as wot ninja looks like which is ruining his YouTube videos. Will this help?
The price under it says £269 in your image. No chance they're selling a quad core router at 135. 39922865-cWrdq.jpg

You could also get a quad core J1900 or an E3845 based router for that price for pfsense. Granted, it won't have the wireless capability but it will certainly provide gigabit throughout and likely have as good, if not better encryption capability (well, the E3845 anyway)

I see the "Save 50%" but that's it, no CSI enhancements going to improve that . Lets see the receipt then I'll believe. That second half could have been stuffed down the plastic sleeve of the counter and not be part of the first price ticket.

Agreed. Probably Russians destabilising our economy through covert price label manipulation. The OP must be in on it.

I didn't buy it as I don't need it, so no receipt unfortunately. Thought I'd post it in the hopes that it would be useful to someone local.

Sure, it may be a mis-label, but it was the only yellow labelled item in the networking aisle. If someone does pick this up, please update us in the comments.

You can install Merlin firmware and then a Linux distro called entware which allows you to run torrent clients and plex servers. It is a great piece of kit.
Can confirm Currys does have 50% off selected clearance items at the moment, it's a coupon that's scanned at the till so won't show the discounted price on any tickets.

That's what I thought you could do but just wanted to check.
As I run vdsl, can you recommend a decent modem to plug into the wan port on this router?

If buying 'new', here are some lower cost options:

Netgear DM200
TPLlink TD-W9970 can be configured in 'bridge mode'.

Any BT Business Hub 5 or BT Business Smart Hub also offers 'bridge mode'. Must be the 'Business' version and not the regular 'Home' version.
Excellent price if this was national

Hmm, would it not be cheaper for me to go for a vdsl router of this calibur? Does one exist and can you recommend?
Expired - I went just before closing today. They've taken the facing away, my guess is they're discontinuing it. I talked to a guy in customer services to confirm, he said at it's original price it's been sitting on the shelf since he started there!

I did check another store earlier in the day and there wasn't even a space for it, I'm guess this was store specific.

So was it 134 or 268? I'm just curious if I should have popped in when I saw it the next day.
