Anyone has this and using with sky router? I've got RBK50 Orbi and it drops at least twice each day and it requires a restart. Getting annoyed now with it.
The only challenge I had was getting the 68U paired as an Aimesh to the 86U using Merlin software. Using stock on both it worked fine first time and offers fantastic coverage.

Update firmware and do a factory reset once updated, failing this I suggest you download the wrt-merlin firmware.

It might also be worth looking up the think broadband quality monitor so you can make sure it's not sky with the fault. Just remember to allow echo requests from wan in the firewall page of router.
Any thoughts as to how it compares to the Netgear Nighthawk X6S - AC4000 Tri-Band Wireless?amazon.co.uk/dp/…149

Both good routers but coverage on the nighthawk is higher.

I'm guessing you mean update the Asus with Merlin?

I'll definitely reset my orbi system.

Sky doesn't allow their router to go into bridge/modem mode so I've disabled DHCP, ssid and set a static IP for the router. Kind of a double NAT situation. Issue is that orbi will have a purple light meaning it's have issue from sky but sky router shows nothing and that usually requires a restart to fix. Sky Q also needs configuring every single time the router is restarted cause it's too dumb to connect again.
Would this work well with a virgin media hub? Would be using this as the primary router while the hub would be in modem mode.

Speak to your service provider as you’ve probably got a fault somewhere. Restarting your router isn’t good, particularly if you’re on a VDSL circuit.

Assuming your on Openreach network you could buy a VDSL openreach modem for £10 off Ebay and use that.

This is the modem i use with this router and on my 3rd ISP with this set up. Always rock solid.

Did this the other month, my only regret is I didn't do it a long time ago.
Has anyone used this with Hyperoptic (1Gbps), would this work being plugged directly into the Hyperoptic port in the wall (Ethernet)?

I have used it myself (with Hyperoptic 1Gbps) plugged to their port in the wall and it does work.
I have one and with Merlin installed it's the dogs.
Especially if you want it to run VPN client, which similar routers from the likes of Netgear won't.
Plenty out there run a VPN server, but not as a VPN client.
Really great, reliable router and infinitely customizable.
Like the others have said, I have this router and it is excellent. Just a word of warning though to anyone who on the off chance still runs their network/equipment over 2.4ghz. This routers 5ghz is excellent, it's 2.4ghz is terrible. It's the only negative thing I can say about it.
One of the best routers you'll ever own.

Yep. Highly recommended
I'm tempted with this. Having issues with super hub 3 virgin media. Poor latency and lag on FIFA online. Every 10 seconds or will pause for a split second and catchup

What routers run a VPN server but won't run a client?
Many. It's the reason I bought this instead of a Nighthawk

Get a mesh network instead. These are basically just slightly better routers, they don’t increase range by much and only really suitable for small places.

How did you manage that? I want to have that working but can't get 68U to work properly. Almost tempted to get a second 86U just to get it working

Nighthawk is tomato and dd-wrt compatible. It has hardware that can run as a vpn client and can be run as a vpn server.

Mesh wont improve speed, every hop drops it so if you are trying to sort your hyperoptic out, thius is the one.

My mesh works great thanks, on the 3rd hop 150mb+ down and 35mb up which is more than enough for any gamer (at the edge of my house too). Above the first unit 385mb down and 37.5 up. I’ve spent £150 on an earlier version of these supposed gaming routers and it didn’t even cover half the house!!! To be fair it’s a 4 bed detached so larger than most peoples houses I guess. At the edge of WiFi I was getting about 1-2mb down and about 0.5mb up with the old gaming router (compared to the 3rd hop rates).
