Compare to basic hardware you receive from your isp - this is much better and faster but it has got no modem build in, so you have to spend another £50 - 100 to do the job, will it worth it? No!
Surely better to invest in a mesh network?

Incorrect. Just use your ISP kit as the modem and turn off wi-fi and dchp on it. Put this router into the DMZ on the ISP kit and you're good to go. The advantage of the router only models is that they can be flashed with the Merlin firmware, whereas the DSL models can't.

You can't use Merlin with the Asus routers with a modem built in. So I'd get the one the op posted
