Would this work/improve my 70mb sky internet?

As far as i'm aware, this won't work with Sky fibre, unless you flash the firmware with dd-wrt Sky use Option 61 MER protocol to login which most routers don't support from the outset.
I replaced my BT router with one of the ASUS routers and I will never look back or use ISP provided hubs.

To all you router experts out there, is this much of an upgrade from a netgear R7800.

I don't think so.

This doesn't have a modem. And I don't think you can bridge with the Sky router.

No you can't, but you can use an open reach or 3rd party modem if you have one lying around.

Really good deal considering the AC2900 was hot at £135.

Is having 8 LAN ports a bad thing?

Presumably OOS as it's showing as dispatched within 1-2 months.

Or buy one off eBay for £15

This is not the same as a mesh system. You can’t compare

Mesh is much better

You can buy cheaper asus routers to use as a “mesh” system. Asus call them nodes.
Bonus if you have a old one laying around
Is this better , just as good as the 86ac that was £135 recently,. Can you install Merlin etc

They are apparently similar 86u is 2 yrs newer, has better cpu but less ethernet ports.

88u can be hung on a wall and has some other extra features

Can do merlin on both, but sone saying 86u has better deployment.

Faster cpu 1.8 compared to 1.4 on this would , so would the 86u be better for Vpn
Fantastic price. Look at the throughput rather than the CPU - and the 8 ports is a real bonus. Have the 87U which is fantastic - this is better and a lot cheaper than what I paid for mine. Absolutely put Merlin firmware on to get the most out of it, you can be in 5 different places at once on VPN! In my opinion this is an absolute steal.

Yes most Asus are perfect for Sky, you just need to flash it with Merlin firmware and you will have the option to enter option 61/MER details.....you will need a modem though, can be had on Ebay for under £20.
It's not difficult to flash Merlin, its done just like flashing official Asus firmware through the router GUI.
For those in the know, I have a Netgear D7000 at the moment with BT Openreach FTTP 150mbit. I want to stick to having a built in modem, what's a decent upgrade from this?

I don't really have any issues with my current - but I'm aware it's quite old now.
Knowing amazon this well never come back in stock. Like many things recently
Looks like a good price and I think this will be a good replacement for my seven year old ASUS RT-N66U. I hard wire most of the stuff in my house but it would still be good to get newer WIFI tech and some other functionality for near enough the same price I paid for the N66U (if Amazon honour the deal !).

I keep hearing this would be perfect to use next to a “Modem”ed Virgin Superhub 3...

Anyone know?

86u is 2 years newer with faster cpu. Main benifits of 88 is 8 ports. Personally I would stick with the 86 and a seperate 8 port switch.
If I were to replace this with the Vodafone Gigafast router, would I still be able to connect the phone to it? (i think its called a VOIP, its not an actual phone line)
How does this compare, in relation to specs and performance, against the NIGHTHAWK AX12 12-STREAM WI-FI 6 ROUTER?

Can you just use the existing crap ISP provided modem and hook it up to this bad boy?
Is there an all in one modem/router of this quality that I can replace a Plusnet provided modem/router as it's absolutely crap?
Just got a mail to say my item will be delivered quicker than anticipated.
Am I buying into old technology with this, I'd like to know I'm not buying there old sell off stock?

It’s exactly what I do, disable the wireless on the ISP and then pop an Ethernet cable into the ASUS and let the ASUS do all the heavy routing with the wireless. You’ll get your ISP internal IP as the WAN side IP on the ASUS.

It is 2 years old but i think it's still highly regarded and will be sufficient for most people. The new technology is ax wifi, but not many devices can benefit from that yet so it's a lot more money for little benefit at the moment.

Would anybody like to suggest a modem to pair this with?
