Price seems good for the specs. Mixed reviews so if you choose to buy I'd probably consider getting it from Amazon instead for easier customer service should you have any issues. Amazon have dropped their price to match.

Any ideas if this is good? I really want to buy one right now. No idea why they paired a 1060 with an i5 though. Anybody got any reviews?

Read one review on amazon saying the performance is sporadic and did not offer stable high frame rates. Im guessing the i5 is holding it back.
I don’t know if portability isn’t an issue but a desktop for gaming
Al t of ASUs laptops have heating problems
Otherwise consider buying hp omen as it has best heating management
I m not expert but just wanted to share my two pence as it’s a pain waiting for a refund or replacement etc
Sorry for typos

They paired an i5 with it because when it comes to gaming the GPU is what truly matters, heck they could have used an i3.
This is a good deal!!

The CPU has bottlenecked (slightly) on other i5+1060 laptops, so I can't see this being any different. Shouldn't cause too much of a problem with current games. Not much headroom going forward though.
Shame it's not an i7 at that price point (my MSI laptop is an i7 with similar specs and price), however still a good deal.
I have the last gen gtx1070 Strix one and it's a very thin and well made laptop. Only downside is the trackpad is horrible. I've updated the bios and tried different software, but nothing stops it being laggy and jumpy at times. Makes me want to throw it througj the wall sometimes. Luckily I mostly use an Xbox one pad and just game on it, but if I used it for Internet browsing and work it would have been smashed into many pieces or sold long ago. Shame really, but if you do a search many Asus models have this problem and I think it's due to the precision drivers.

Going by benchmarks it is roughly the same as a 7/8th gen i7 U and 4th gen i7 normal, mainly due to the quad core.

Dont be sorry. Dell = Hell.

I’m thinking on the same lines. I’m looking at getting a cheapish laptop and a moderate desktop set up. I don’t know who to buy from now. A local guy who fixes computers says there all rubbish. He fixes Dell, Hp, Lenovo, Acer stuff that are still under warranty for people who are actually employed by these companies. Even the employees of these firms can’t face going through the support systems they offer. Says a lot

What make, in the same boat as you my Alienware motherboard has packed up and need something quick...Easter gaming
Avoid all low end ASUs gaming laptops. As others have said, you can fry an egg on them, and that’s while they’re throttling too!
Nice find, it's probably going to be quite loud while gaming but just jam some headphones on and enjoy I say!

F**King aweful laptop, and even worse when you send it back for repair, touchpad stopped working and "letmerepairthat" or whatever crap 3rd party Asus used sent it back with a new touchpad that stuck out by 3 mm on one side and sunk in on the other. luckily amazon took it back no quibbles.

I ended up doing this, 1070 in a desktop = 1440p bliss.

I got a Windows tablet from Gearbest for my day to day surfing. Teclast pro something. really nice and only about £200
Add specs to the description next time.
I hope this doesn't come across as spam but I'm struggling to find a buyer for my Gaming Laptop on ebay - it's collection only from Hitchin, Herts. Acer Predator 17 (1070, i7-6700, 16gb ram, 128ssd, 1080p IPS). It's a big old chap and I'm not really taking advantage of the gaming capabilities so I'm going to change to a simple laptop. If anyone wants a link to the listing please pop me a message. If this is an illegal comment then feel free to remove it! Not here to cause hassle, just thought it may help someone. Thanks all
I have the slightly better i7 version of this.
It's a decent laptop, although it was a lot more than this as I purchased it on launch.

The biggest issue is the heat - which you can actual solve yourself. The problem is that ASUS use absolute trash thermal paste and within a few months it solidifies and causes temps to be much higher than that should be. A bit of Arctic Silver and the temps dropped loads (~15c).
You shouldn't have to do this, granted. It seems like such a stupid thing for them to have skimped on given the laptop specs.

You can still cause if to throttle under benchmarks where the GPU and CPU and pushed to their limits, but you need to understand that this ins't an issue under normal use. A game will not max our both your CPU and GPU together under almost any situation. You generally only see this when running synthetic benchmarks / mining (which you'd be mad to do).

The trackpad is a bit of a weird one. I have a friend who has the i5 version and we both have the same issue: When the machine has been under load for a while, it's a pain to 'click' the trackpad. The heat is clearly causing the metal to expand slightly, which causes an alignment issue. It'll be fine again once it cools down, but again, this shouldn't even be a thing given the cost of the machine.
Given I use a mouse and keyboard 99% time with a screen plugged in, it's not bothered me too much.

If you have trackpad issues with movement, then you should update the BIOS, the touchpad software and the ATKPackage. This fixed it for me as it'll update the trackpad firmware too.

Overall, I'm happy enough with it. I just don't get why ASUS keep using cheap thermal paste across their range.

Also, be aware that if you like to upgrade things, this doesn't use the normal 'unscrew and pull the back off' approach. You need to have some plastic wedge tools (like you open phones with) to get into it. It's easy enough, but if you don't have any and want to upgrade it, you can't.

I did this. Got a decent desktop but couldn't really find anywhere in the house to put it and liked the portability of a laptop.

You can install Parsec on your gaming computer and then stream it to any other device really. So I have a decent rig stashed in a corner, turn it on then log into it via my laptop and play from it. Desktop handles the game and I get portability with the laptop. Seamless (and this is with a terrible laptop).

This week I took my laptop away for work and was still able to play the games I want as I just got the missus to turn on the PC back home.
I don't know whether to give this heat - it gets hot enough already.
You'll need a laptop fan with it to keep it... reasonable.

I’m thinking of a tablet now. I’m an apple tart though! Wouldn’t mind a keyboard though. Thinking the gaming laptop was a bad idea. All I’d play is MAME and some other emulators anyway. Did get the dell with the head set but it never made it out of the box

Didn't expect to see the GL503's so cheap, so quickly tbh. 120hz screen afaik (it's an 'IPS level' wide-view TN, not a true IPS - ignore the marketing blurb) Good price imho. Noted. I post up reviews so people can get an idea of what the quality of the build, networking, cooling etc. All the things that are the same across SKU's.Also, all those reviews have the same 120hz screen so you can get a good idea of how it performs

Cheers. Thought all my problems were sorted when I bought the Lenovo laptop from John Lewis only for it to be cancelled. The icing on the cake is that Dell didn’t pick up my returns that was arranged between 9am - 6pm so I currently have £1400 waiting to be returned to me now
Not specific to Scan, looks to be same price everywhere
Would i5 7300 bottleneck 1060?
I m on the fence due to heating different accounts
Would appreciate if anyone bought it already and could share experience
Cheers
