Asus Transformer Pad at PC World for £399.99

Found 10th May 2012
This tablet is glorious, and it's older brother still selling for 499 and up elsewhere.

EXACTLY the same spec as the prime but with a cheaper chassis.

Posting on here to see the heat. If it gets hot enough then I can justify the purchase myself!

For 4 cores, 4.0 (ICS) and a keyboard, as well as 18 hours of that sweet battery. How could you resist?

Much better than buying an iPad, but it's £400 everywhere. 10/10 review on Trusted Reviews

Screen res isn't as good as the transformer prime but 1280x800 is still great in a 10" screen.

I think they have the same screen res, but prime has super ips plus and pad 300 uses normal ips, infinity has full hd screen 1920 x 1080

Better than any Ipad.

hot.

Wrong, it's not exactly the same spec, the CPU is clocked 100mhz lower, it doesn't have Gorilla glass and the screen lacks the Super IPS+ mode of the Prime.

It will be gorilla glass (I assume) but it won't be branded as such. For the same Res I am happy to miss out on the super IPS. And really? 100MHz. I guarantee I will have this baby overclocked in less than a day.

I will admit, I am psyched for the infinity but at this price it is hard to sniff at.

True, my mistake. I thought the prime had the 1920x1200 screen.

When will the Infinity be out?

WHY IS THIS HOT? These should be selling for £250 by now!

This is a dual core... prime is a quad core... don't know how anyone can say same specs! The prime blows this out of the water!

Edit: my mistake! Didn't realise its the tf300! I take it all back!

I'm sure this was cheaper than the Acer 510 at the US rrp but we get charged more in the UK? Why are Asus' always dearer compared to other tablets over here?

The US retailers sell the pad on it's own; here it comes bundled with the dock. Still cheaper in the States though.... And this is the rrp so not hot from me (although pcw may have this exclusivly ahead of the full UK launch date I think)

Awfully expensive netbook, and the keyboard keeps coming loose.

So... not quad core? or 1GB of RAM? or 1280 x 800 res screen (OK, not super IPS+)?

Hmm, this isn't bad at all.. I'd recommend changing the title to say that it isn't the original Transformer which I thought it was when I first saw the post.. Specs look pretty good and reviews look good too..

Question I've been asking is, is the galaxy tab 10.1 better than a transformer? Would love some advice as getting that free tab from the s3 Carphone Warehouse promo and was wondering if it was better to sell it and buy an asus instead.. Any ideas anyone?

I'm so tempted, I want to wait and see the infinity but i don't know if i can....

Tried to edit the entry but can't as apparently my reputation is not good enough. Who's been telling on me

Anyway can we be clear here, this is the brand new (not actually available in the UK yet) version of the Transformer that sits between the original and the Prime released last year. It is basically the same spec as the Prime i.e. Tegra 3 Quad Core chip, 32Gb on board, 1200x800 IPS screen and this price includes the docking station.

That makes it much better than the original and is almost the same as the Prime. The main differences are that the Prime has it's chip clocked 1.3Ghz while the TF300T is clocked at 1.2Ghz and a Super IPS screen - though I have no idea what this means since it's the same resolution. According to US reviews the Prime is slightly more readable in brighter light but it doesn't appear to offer much of an improvement.

I'm not sure about the gorilla glass comment above but I would think it does have it even if it's not specified. The other differences are that it has a plastic body rather than the Prime's metal case. This makes it feel cheaper & less sturdy (perhaps) but might help alleviate those WiFi issues reported on the Prime. ASUS Won't admit it but I'm cynical. Finally the TF300T is slightly heavier than the Prime by about 2oz.

It is however £100 cheaper than the Prime with keyboard and I have one on order

Initial models are coloured blue but apparently there will be white & red versions soon.

One thing else to note - the docking stations on all 3 models are NOT compatible so you can't use them on a different model.

It's hardened, not gorilla glass, and Super IPS+ means it won't go retina meltingly bright for use in direct sunlight.

You can use the Prime docking station, but it doesn't look right as the design is different.

Is this still a pre-order or has anyone managed to pick one up early?

Infinity has an August UK release date
