Expensive, tbh. I got a Lenovo with 9750h, 16gb ram, 1 tbb ssd, 1650 4gb, 17.3 ips with £780

You're not gonna much gaming done on a 1650 . Yeah you technically can but you're very limited and this is expensive for what it is
Yes you right but at this moment can't find nothing with 1650 with this prize.
bit expensive in my opinion but if someone need it urgently then yes its fine
Would wait personally for the new Ryzen 4000 mobile chips that have just launched
The new Ryzen 7 4800h is better

I have a similarly capable 1060 Max-Q and it's a perfectly capable of gaming. Here, have some benchmarks: notebookcheck.net/NVI…tml

I mean, that's not really true. Pretty much any game will run fine at 1920x1080p (native resolution of the laptop), with some you may have to drop quality settings to medium. It's about 35% faster than the 1050m which is what it's meant to replace.

Saying that, £700 isn't a great price. I picked up one of these while back and upgraded it to 1.25TB SSD (256 NVME + 1TB 2.5") and 16GB RAM for £630 in total.

Ok, I'll rephrase. This just isn't worth the price in my option for the gpu you get. I know what the native resolution is. This is my hobby haha.

Also the problem is with it being "fine" . This laptop is just not a good balance of performance/and parts

The 1650 will be outdated very shortly ,there's no need for 120hz display unless you play on medium/low settings and there's a toss up between getting ddr5 or ddr6 memory. The experience isn't going to be worthwhile

I had a 1060 laptop and it did just ok.

Have some benchmarks? The benchmarks show this gpu is running games sub 60fps on medium settings on games released within the last 2 years.

I had a 1060 6gb laptop and that was struggling 1 year ago

I'm not saying that you cannot game on this because that would be silly. I'm saying that the performance of this laptop is not worth the money, has terrible specs, has a toss-up between ddr5 or ddr6 memory, has a GPU that will be outdated very soon, and is struggling to run modern games at decent settings. Most people will regret this purchase.

For a kid, yeah it would be good for a year or two.

You will aboslutely get 120FPS in most eSports titles like DOTA, LOL, CSGO etc.

I agree it's not the the best price it's been at, but currently everything else in the £600-750 price range seems to have a 1050 3GB or the AMD RX560X, both of which don't come close to the 1650.

I wouldn't use it as my main PC, but as a back up and for travel (LOL, not happening now) it's solid.

If the specs are so terrible, please show me something better for under £800.

Yes, eSports...of course you will. And that's always the first defence for this type of GPU and people justifying it. So you're going to limit yourself to an esports laptop that plays a select amount of games on low,/medium settings on a laptop screen ? That's fine if that's what you want to do but can you hopefully say you would pay for this at this price to play esports games?

You either need a faster CPU with an ok gpu or a good gpu a lower performing CPU for higher resolution.

You would use a bulky laptop like this for work? You would TRAVEL with this heavy laptop?

That's stupid. Just because you CAN buy a laptop like this at this price , doesn't mean you should and why under £800?

So we both agreed that the laptop shouldn't be priced at this much yet you still want me to find a better performing one at this price? Shouldn't you be able to find one yourself?

Anyway I'm done arguing.

Also what CPU was tested with this GPU . Sorry, I just can't find the testing laptop or test bench. I did just glance and use the search function around the benchmarks. It's hard on my phone lol

What if I told you lots of people play and enjoy eSports titles.

LiamSmith7804/04/2020 14:14 So you're going to limit yourself to an esports laptop that plays a select amount of games on low,/medium settings on a laptop screen ?

Lots of people (not me) only really play games like Fortnite. If they need some mobility and want solid graphics performance as well this is the best choice under £800. It will play much more than just esports, but they will take advantage of the 120Hz screen.

LiamSmith7804/04/2020 14:14That's fine if that's what you want to do but can you hopefully say you would pay for this at this price to play esports games? You either need a faster CPU with an ok gpu or a good gpu a lower performing CPU for higher resolution.

Again, not me but some would. Again, if it's such a bad deal show me a better one?

LiamSmith7804/04/2020 14:14 You would use a bulky laptop like this for work? You would TRAVEL with this heavy laptop?

I never mentioned work and yes, I have travelled with it. It's only 2.2KG.

Why is it stupid? If someone needs a laptop with passable gaming performance and they have a budget of £800 then this is the best choice currently, which makes it a good deal. I asked you to find better because that would prove my point wrong, clearly you can't.

Look, I said I'm not arguing anymore. Buy a gaming pc for half the price and buy decent £400 laptop . Best of both worlds and move on please.

It's a discussion, not an arguement. You're just being really defensive for some reason. All I have asked for is you to substantiate your opinions.

What about students who have to frequently move between home and Uni, what if you have very limited space?

Also, you mean a £400 desktop and £300 laptop, yes? As that would be the same price. A £400 desktop would be, roughly an i3 9100F, 8GB ram, 512GB SSD, cheap case/PSU and a 1650.

So about the same gaming performance as the laptop in this post. Then a cheap laptop would be much slower, you would also need to buy a screen and seperate KB/Mouse for the desktop.
How would this laptop cope with Skyrim special edition?

I imagine 1920*1080, high settings, 60FPS constantly. Although I'm happy to test that for you tomorrrow.

If you play them low then yes, I have a desktop 2060 hooked up to an amplifier and it can max games out with 120 FPS

With it being the pci bus it’s not the same as a desktop but it night and day over a 1060m

Don’t buy this crap, if your buying a laptop make sure you buy a better gpu or go Alienware and buy an amp with the laptop so you can drop a card in it and use it as a docked machine
Gamers should be aware, and most are, that laptops carry a hefty premium for decent gaming.

Why blame them? If you think AMD were offering better improvements you should have gone with them instead. Don't blame the market leaders for 'medicre improvements'
