an ok deal, but if you're looking for value, get this mobo with a g3258. can be overclocked easily and be had for <35. the mobo is ~33 leaving enough cash for ram to match this deal

Wouldn't touch an H81 for OC'ing the G3258 either. Spend an extra £10 and buy at least a Z87 (z97 preferably) and the G3258 and some low voltage, low CL RAM - perfect entry level for well under £150, with the ability to upgrade in future. This deal, because of the H81 chipset, severely reduces your ability to upgrade in future, particularly the RAM speed, even more so because the CPU included has a locked multiplier, so few opportunities for OC. I run the G3258 and even at stock, it's only OK for light web browsing, multitasking is pretty limited unless you OC the chip - which is exactly what the G3258 is intended for.

OK - but by the time you've added essentials may be getting close to ready built.

Interesting that very few desktops have appeared on HUKD over the holiday period. Wonder why?

why do you say it's only ok for light web browsing? it can be used for any web browsing and more.
Also, why wouldn't you use a H81 for overclocking? I'm using the same one as on tom's hardware guide and it works fine. tomshardware.co.uk/pen…tml

You wont want to overclock with a H motherboard and ram will be limited to 1600mhz.

Would allow overclocking better but as they say it's horses for courses, your budge will be different from person n's budge and his or her needs.

somethings were found slightly cheaper a few quid but once you add shipping it became more expensive.

Hot deal last time, and still a hot deal today I think!

June last year Asus enabled overclocking for all Anniversary K chips on its boards ranging from the H97, H87, B85 and H81 Series Motherboards.

Dabs are doing a bundle for 159.99 what comes with the G3258 H81 AND 8 GIG 1600MHZ DDR3

I had already ordered a set from amazon i was after a Asus Z97-P but have gone for the H97-Pro instead for now to get my build up and running, with the G3258. more for impatience than anything, i would have had to wait a few days for the Z97 whereas i can have the H97 tomorrow and i am impatient when it comes to deliveries

I had to go for a specific board as i am also looking at adding in an M.2 SSD as boot drive and the h97-Pro is M.2 compliant

If you can afford a little bit more, go for the cheapest i3 - Pentium is still pretty crippled by Intel with most new features in Haswell disabled (AVX2/AVX, AES, naturally HT, Turbo) - GPU also pretty crippled.

Still a good CPU - does benefit from other arch improvements... For ~100 in all voted Hot.

Good price I reckon, scavenge a hard drive, slap it in a cheap case and you have a decent basic PC.

Nice basic PC

it would help if the non-bundle price was given.

I added the three items individually and came up with £112.10 + £1.99 shipping

so this bundle saves £4.12. better than nothing I guess, but not really that hot, sorry.

Yeah I got a G3258 and it overclocks just fine on a cheap H97 board.

Don't forget a PSU!

Pretty good components for a home server, my ESXi server is running on pretty much the same stuff and easily handles VPN, DNS, Plex, FreeNAS, ownCloud and CrashPlan.

You can pick up a decent 87 or 97 board for little over 50 quid new, otherwise, there's plenty going on eBay for £30-40 - keeps it all within a tight budget AND allows you to OC and upgrade (i5 or i7) in future when you can afford more than a 50 quid chip.

Ur only saving about £12 with this deal, still good i suppose

1. what have you been smoking?
2. what kind of web sites are you browsing?!?
I definitely want some of that and see these pages... they must be wicked!

My main PC has a G550 (+16GB+SSD) which has almost half the CPU benchmark score than the G3258. No problems browsing, it's all nice and fast. It only gets slow if two or more Adobe Flash players get stuck.

Edit: I'd even fire up my Core i7 3930K to get a proper look at these websites!

Don't understand deals like this. get the cheapest decent over clockable board as possible. This will last most people few years. If you bought this board most people will change it next year. z97 ones are probably your best bet. I was lucky and one of the many who got the gigabyte board cheap a 46.00 gigabyte z97 soc force board. I got 2. great board but I think they usually go for 150 plus. look at the lower spec z97 ones
