Don't be too sure, I saw a 7 year old HP identical to mine, go for £135 on E-bay recently.

Very true.. but my phone has nearly 3x the number of pixels on a 6" screen! A 17" with such a low resolution is bad. Imo it's worth spending a little more (£400-£500) to get something decent if you can afford it. Laptops with the Ryzan 5 chips are very reasonable.

I guess if you have to have that size screen and you only want to spend £300 it might be the laptop for you!

What do you use it for and how often? Do you need an optical drive because this does not have one. If a big screen is the most important thing to you have you considered an all in one or a mini HDMI PC.
I am still using the Dell Inspiron 1750 that I saw on here in October 2009. Been on almost all day, everyday, and still does all I need of it. Ten years old, and still looks and runs as good as new.

Too much snobbery about laptops, same as mobile phones. Many people overspend by hundreds, just because someone on HUKD says you need to spend a certain amount, but that is just their opinion based on their experience, and wallet size.
This will be absolutely perfect if you only use your laptop for what I would suspect the vast majority of us use them for. Web browsing, email, YouTube and whatever else. If for business use or video editing, etc, then you want maybe to do some further research.

Its not opinion that this is a very low spec laptop, nor that if you spend say £100+ more you can get a vastly superior machine. The benchmarks etc will show this. If you dont need the performance - fine but its still nice to use a laptop that runs smooth and has a good IPS screen you then start paying more for lighter, quieter, good build quality, etc. You might not find value in that but most ppl will.

Your opinion, based on what? My opinion is based on using what you would describe as a "low specification" machine for over 10 years. Your post just confirms my opinion that you are one of the many on here who encourage people to spend more than is necessary.
PS Who are these "most PPL"
I stand by my comments, if looking for a daily use laptop with a 17" screen, this item would more than fulfil my needs, which are the same needs of anyone I know who has basic laptop requirements. My web pages load instantly, me emails are sent and received instantly, I watch videos, etc.
A friend of my son purchased a gaming laptop, on the advice received on this forum, and he never plays games on it, and never intended to, but was advised to buy an all singing, all dancing laptop, just in case the need arose!! Crazy waste of money.
Anyway, just my tuppence worth, based on living in the real world.

It's not snobbery, it's just making sure are getting the best value for their money. I wouldn't buy this for a loved one because even though its cheap it's going to be sluggish and wouldn't want to put anyone I love through the experience of something like this.
