I had this in my basket at 699.99 and its dropped to 529.99 and seems a really good price for an 8th generation I5 processor.

Hope it helps someone.

What's wrong with the screen?
The ad says it's FHD and wide viewing angles quoted indicate an IPS panel. Not sure of colour accuracy though.

Screen is terrible. Shame let’s the whole thing down.

Yeah now I see it. It's buried in the specs.
All the visual ads say FHD and suggest IPS. Even the stock image on this page says FHD... Very misleading.

Looks very good spec... screen is fine for me and alot of other people.

Advertising as FHD is false advertising. Good specs, terrible screen resolution. Cold cold cold

Have spoken to an advisor on amazon chat who clarified that the screen is in fact Full HD. WHAT A BARGAIN!

No Ethernet?

There is a comment in the HUKD thread for the 128GB version (AO) from someone who bought the laptop.

It seems to confirm the screen is not full HD.

Shame really. Would have been perfect if it was. A real missed opportunity by Asus.

Seconded, I spoke to Amazon customer services and they confirmed with Asus this is a FHD screen. Some mix up with the lower spec machines I think.

There are many different versions of this. Just because the one AO stocked turned out to be HD doesn't mean this one is. If you read the Amazon comments a seller confirms its FHD. Also a reviewer mentions the screen is great. And as above, when I consulted Amazon themselves they contacted ASUS and they confirmed FHD. Worth a punt, if it's not then just return it.

Processor listed as 1.6Ghz, I assume that it's quad core so 4 x 1.6ghz?

I have just spoken to Amazon who confirmed it's only HD. Not sure who to listen to now!

The reviews are for older models, I'm sure the 8th gen intel have just come out. However I am happy to take the plunge to see if this is in fact full hd
Edited by: "stsonic" 24th Nov

I've emailed Amazon CS to see if they can confirm whether it's FHD or not.

Tempted to place an order in case it sells out.

Does anyone know if Amazon are likely to allow me to return if the resolution is not FHD?

If you look above each review they say what item specifically they're talking about (not mobile site). This guy definitely talks about the i5 8th gen, he even mentions Black Friday in the review and it was posted within the last few days.

Yes. I bought it and have it in writing via their customer message service that I can return it for free if not FHD

Amazon have already confirmed FHD with multiple people, myself included. But either way, yes they will accept returns if it's not what you expected. Just examine what the box says when you get it.

It says FHD on the spec from ASUS further down the page. I'm more inclined to believe that. I ordered it.

Did the person in chat contact ASUS? Or did they just look at the spec written on their page? Because the guy I spoke to put me on hold whilst he contacted ASUS and said they've confirmed FHD. Even have it in an email from customer services.

I am interested in this machine but also looking at

How do they compare, Is the Acer any good, which one should I chose?
Thanks in advance.

The Acer has a smaller SSD and inferior CPU - but whether or not it matters is based on what you want to use it for. The Acer will probably be fine.

How does this compare to the Acer Swift 3 with i5-8250 processor? I can't seem to find any reviews for the Asus.

Well let's hope you are right. Sadly I think this will be 1366x768 screen. Ill be keeping it either way though. And this spec literally just came out. There are no reviews in the last few days talking about the screen. The pic also has a fingerprint scanner on it, I very much doubt it has that either.

There are plenty of reviews of the Acer swift 3 2016 and 2017 models are even compared, I've been looking at them myself but didn't find the argos machine you link. Thanks for that.

I've been looking at the same laptop.

Best place I could find for reviews is the Amazon USA website. If you display the site in Dekstop mode and filter by most recent, you will be able to see several people who have reviewed the 8250u model.

Link to Amazon USA reviews

It has very good reviews overall. I'm tempted but £679 is quite expensive.
Off the top of my head, I'm sure one of the reviews mentions that the RAM cannot be upgraded (as it's soldered onto the motherboard). This puts me off a little bit.

Torn between this or the HP Pavilion Pro 14-bf101na
Both are £679 - Except the HP as a dedicated GPU (940MX - 2GB DDR3)

I've also been looking at the various options for 14 inch decent spec laptops around at the moment. It seems you have a choice today between this Asus at Amazon (latest i5 processor, 8GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, probably a 768p screen, which will also likely be a lower quality panel), and the HP (latest i5, 8GB, 256 GB, 1080p IPS screen, GeForce 940MX GPU for a 3D boost). All other specs seem very comparable (size, weight, battery), although the HP looks a little more polished to me). The cost difference between these two is £150, I went for the HP, but both seem like good options.

Yeah unfortunately there isn't much choice on 14 inch laptops with an 8th gen processor & FHD screen.

The only other option I've managed to find is the HP Pavilion x360 14-ba104na (2 in 1) for £636.65 with the 15% off code.

i5 8250u
8GB DDR4 RAM
256GB SSD
FHD IPS Touch Screen
1 x USB Type-C
2 x USB 3.1

Although this one is a little heavier (1.63kg) and does not have a backlit keyboard/dedicated GPU.
The two recent reviewers seem quite happy with it.

If nothing comes up in the next 2-3 hours I'll probably pick-up the same model as you (HP Pavilion Pro 14-bf101na ) for an extra £43.

It's full HD, they are all similar in other departments. The games will need to be ran at lower resolution and quality, however I don't think you'll get much better below £300.

Just bought a Dell Inspirion 15 5000 on the Dell Doorbuster sale for £550....

i7-8550U
8GB DDR4 RAM
256GB SSD
AMD 530 4gb ( Originally it was advertised with a 1060 )
Should I keep it or go for the Acer, Asus or the HP?

I just spoke with Amazon and he said it is Full HD and that he is going to change the description
EDIT: nvm, read Nikotimes response below
Edited by: "stovy" 24th Nov

I've had a response from Asus which categorically states that it is 768p:
twitter.com/ASU…312

"the VivoBook S410 is the 768p. The ZenBook 14 is Full HD. That must the confusion as they're listed together. Apologies for this"

Which is unfortunate!

Amazon have removed all reference to it being FHD now I'm afraid..

SteveAdam-3da90.1659551 m ago

Amazon have removed all reference to it being FHD now I'm afraid..

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

The issue is that on the Amazon site there are three options on that page. The S410 i5, the S410 i3 and the UX410 Zenbook. And it looks as though a lot of the info has just been shared between each listing. No matter which you select the question and answers section is all the same etc.

Ultimately the only way to say for sure is when someone gets the delivery of their goods. If people are worried then buy something else as well and then send back the one that isn't wanted. Sure it's disappointing but you're not losing out on anything.

Trying to find a lightweight laptop for my sister and this is the first thing that has come along in a long time

She really likes my wifes HP Envy but that is out of budget

Do people think this is the best value for money out there at the moment? She will be taking it to Uni next year and also plays older games from time to time

Any advice welcome - thanks!
