1950s processor.
From what i can see its a relatively new processor.
Its been this price for ages, dont know about now but the i3 was only £30 more and the i5 was about £70 more.

I know someone with the colour, its shocking. The 4GB is soldered to the board and there is one free slot so you can get some funky RAM configs. 12GB, 20GB etc.

I need a new laptop as the screen is broken on my current one. All I use it for is watching films and playing Football Manager 2019, although I'd like to get 2020 too. Would this laptop be satisfactory for that?
Rather spend extra £30 for an i3 processor, but other than that, this is a perfectly OK laptop for basic tasks, no point to discuss of £500 laptops here.
If this were Ryzen 3, I'd say okay. But unless you really don't care about the iGPU being pokey, this will be ok for the basics. Asus have a reputation for iffy build quality at this level though.

Are you sure there is a free slot? I remember a while back the John Lewis deal for 280 was soldered with no free slot..

Wouldn't recommend this deal anyway due to the awful processor in this compared to other deals you can get.

CPU is fine. It’s Pentium Gold 4417U which is based on Kaby Lake R and basically a slightly slower i3 lacking Turbo Boost - so much melodrama because people don’t understand CPU naming... if it’s only got soldered RAM though with no expansion, then avoid it as the 4GB RAM will become a headache far quicker than the CPU ever will.

Plewis00 look online and read it has a socket fella. Not that im advocating buying this over the slighlty more pricy I3 but just a few clicks will tell you the truth. asus.com/uk/…ons

I quite clearly said ‘if it doesn’t have a RAM socket’ and was replying to the poster who said they said in the other thread that it didn’t - putting the onus back on whoever is buying it because I’m not buying it. That makes it quite clear I’m saying it’s fine if you can expand it and it’s not if you can’t - also if it’s hard to access that slot.

Anyone still interested in this machine, here’s the memory upgrade process:
