4gb ram in description but 8gb in title?

4gb onboard plus a SODIMM containing a further 4gb. I assume this is upgradeable to 12gb.
Is this any use for more than just emails. I'm looking for one to use to help to start up my small business

Depending on what business you start. This has more than decent specs and you can do way more than only emails. It's a good deal IMO.

Currys classify this as an Achieve type laptop:

I think it would be more than sufficient for general small business computing requirements but of course it depends on what sort of small business and whether it needs specialist software or not.
A different computer, but it uses the same processor. Seems to be a really good processor, once the BIOS and chipset software has been updated -

Acer :1366x768
Asus :1920x1080
Neither IPS.
For £400 which would you choose?
Me? - Neither.

Was looking at the wrong ACER -
Whichever screen is an IPS panel then.

Hard to be certain of this as Asus list one of the screen options is IPS but not on which model. Been trying to research this without success

Try JL website contact.
I've found JL responsive & knowledgeable in the past.

why's ips so important? ... genuine question

IPS screens are typically more expensive, but produce much higher display quality, with better colours and much better viewing angles. Here's more info on the differences between IPS, TN and VA display technologies. Hope this helps!

why's ips so important? ... genuine question

After you've assimilated bluefish2303 's excellent "more info",
you should spend 15 minutes in JL or PCW looking at
1366 x 768 HD,
1920 x 1080 FHD TN or VA
1920 x 1080 IPS FHD
screens.
I have all 3 & the IPS is, IMO, by far the best viewing experience.
Last week I got my first iPad; the 2019 10.2" wifi amazon.de deal posted on here.
It has the Retina display &
I am surprised at how very superior the video viewing experience is on such a small screen
But having a first IPS screened laptop, is like having a first Laptop with an SSD.
You would not want to revert.
Mine are old eyes too.

Thanks for your help.
The focus on IPS screens is very helpful above and very important ..

If you are ever going to look at your laptop screen that is !

The budget especially and also midrange market is obviously trying to not focus on the screen importance whereby not showing detailed specs .
Intentionally confusing like for like comparisons from other brands

Its because people buy on cost first as the technical side of a purchase is a bloody minefield for most of us .

The Currys Acer Aspire 5 Ryzen 5 £399 offer isnt that great a screen after looking in store but overall its a great package and deal at this price point overall with ram ssd upgrade potential too .
I m not sure this is better deal based on the screen but will check it out at JL

At the £400 mark you have to give up something somewhere but its just very differcult knowing what your getting or giving up with one vs another .

The advertising of spec detail is not as clear as it could be without intensive research time .
Consumer brands dont want you to know too much .
