Every laptop deal here starts and ends about 'is it soldered RAM'. BORING

Please talk about other aspects of laptops that are more interesting and relevant to a lay person. Thanks.

No. The reason is yes all Apple devices have soldered RAM and are far more expensive BUT these are Windows laptops and traditionally they have usually allowed RAM upgrades. 8GB isn't a decent amount of RAM anymore, it is now a minimum requirement, not being able to expand this RAM limits any future expansion and possible longevity of the machine.

In terms of what is good about this particular laptop >

Screen it is OLED, you can't get Mini LED for this price so forget that BUT OLEDs main advantage is picture quality, HDR representation, perfect blacks. The disadvantages are brightness and screen burn in. For this money you can't beat the picture quality here it is going to be excellent. Also RGB space is represented perfectly. The specs speak for themselves >

    14” 2.8K 90Hz OLED Display 16:10 aspect ratio, 2.8K (2880 x 1800) resolution, 90 Hz refresh rate, 0.2 ms response time, 100% DCI-P3 color gamut

Also most laptops are 60Hz, so what I don't game? Wrong. You scroll on webpages right? Of course, scrolling is far better on 90Hz than 60Hz. This screen is awesome for gaming and productivity.

There's no dedicated GPU, this line of laptop can have up to RTX 3050 but this has crappy Radeon graphics so it can't game? Yes and No. Here's a list from 2021 of games tested with Radeon 5600H which I believe this laptop has. So yes it can game but it depends on the game. Typically you want 60 fps average framerate with FPS lows closer to 60FPS than not.

I hate all the above just tell me straight, tough sell OK >

    Pros:

OLED, screen resolution, refresh rate, perfect colour representation. It can game, depends on the game of course.
Ryzen 5 5600H that's desktop Ryzen 5 3600 kind of performance. Good enough for most people, at this price come on it is awesome compute power.

    Cons:

Asus - Expect them to hate you as they hate customers
RAM upgrade - It is soldered, that is rubbish. Not allowed
14" screen size - That is small, 16:10 helps with productivity but 14" is still small.

Tell me again why this good? Come on I am impatient

SCREEN + COMPUTE POWER = Excellent

I am quite negative (ok being honest I hate people and most things) in my thinking, why is it bad?

SOLDERED RAM. ARGHH! This isn't Apple though so you aren't paying to have soldered RAM you get it for free at this price. WAHOO :/

    What else is bad?

Mentioning that the RAM is soldered, ARGHH don't tell me I am a noob just tell me how to drive I don't want to know how the engine works ARGHH!

Soldered ram makes this laptop a piece of electrical junk.Just don't get it why u waste a great screen and make the laptop unusable in the long run.

    Depends who you are

You want unsoldered ram, pay minimum £900 or get an 8th gen intel thinkpad.

That isnt feasible for a regular consumer, so a device that will last 3 to 6 years depending on how you care for it is the way forward

I have written to my MP and trading standards asking for a ban on soldered ram in laptops. Apple have set a wrong precedent which’ll destroy this planet.

Apple are the most toxic anti-consumer company on earth and should be banned from trading,

I bought this recently at 519 and love it the screen is a beauty, it is quiet and plenty fast. Backlit keyboard is nice and also like the numberpad which you can turn on at the touchpad. Heat

Maybe they put the price up but it`s £485.98 with the code CATCH20 not 460.98
    Buy it now price:
    £560.98

I've got this laptop but with the 5800h and 16gb ram, it's a brilliant laptop, the 8gb ram is plenty for the majority and will be enough for Windows 12 when it releases next year. Heat from me.

the speakers on these are so bad. Honestly an a macbook from 2006 sounds so much better than this.

I'm sure if you spent £1048 on an Asus laptop the speakers would sound better than a Macbooks.
If you want your comparison to be taken seriously compare within the same price bracket.

If you want a 16GB version, then Amazon have it for £700 with 1TB SSD and 8-core Ryzen 9 CPU: amazon.co.uk/dp/…df0

The 16GB version was £509 before, this laptop is nice but isn’t worth paying that much for, at that price you’re in ZenBook OLED territory.  (edited)
