Outstanding deal

I poseted last week at 419 which I thought was a good deal...it was 599 at JL when I poseted

hotukdeals.com/dea…293

It says not back lit keyboard - not sure about this...the letters on the keys do light up but maybe not quite as bright as the back-lit on my Zenbook..... not sure whether this is not officially back-lit or if there is a slightly different model

Edit 8gb additional memory (12 total) 32 at Amazon or 35 at Crucial

What do you think of the laptop please ?

So far, so good. Hinge a bit different (not worse) than I'm used to. Screen is great, with narrow bezel. Keys are completely flat. More used to slightly concave a la Lenovo. Would heartily recommend upgrading to 8GB.

Thank you very much for your quick reply.
Am I missing something? Another laptop, another unspecified HDMI.
RabbiDreed20/06/2019 15:14

I've already opened it. Doesn't feel right.

Did you buy it online? 14 day cooling off period if so link .

BTW did you buy the 320S?
I take it there is a spare slot for extra memory?

me too...still I think 420 was a good deal if only we hadnt see this!
4gb ram....
Ordered. Just spent the £32 on RAM from amazon too
Loefah20/06/2019 20:42

Easy to upgrade (add 1 8GB for 12GB) so not a problem.

Yup, but if you pay £380...you expect to have 8gb.. Warranty I think it will be void, and if clumsy you can damage it...

Can you find another one with same specs with 8GB for £380?

This one is close (but no cigar!).

I think you can grab some better specs for same money or less if you have enough patience..especially on eBay auctions or Facebook Marketplace. Still a good deal, don't want to argue about it..Just saying..they could put a bloody 8gb for this price..
Guys please help, both the ASUS Vivobook S14 S430FA-EB021T & Lenovo IdeaPad 330S 81F400G3UK look good, but the Asus does not list a USB-C in the specs, Lenovo does. Need to pick one up for the Mrs. as she starts uni soon. Any suggestions?

Anyone used both of them? @RabbiDreed : Does the Asus have backlit keyboard?

Sorry the official Asus photos aren't particularly hi-res but it's definitely USB-C:

The JL photo is better in this respect:

I've been looking for a Windows laptop for a month now and it's hard to get anything decent for £350 or less that has a slim design/build, full HD IPS screen and an i3 or better. This one even has a matte screen and is upgradeable which is a rarity these days. Buying new from John Lewis is also worth a bit extra than having to use eBay or Facebook Marketplace IMO. 8GB would have been nice though!
Been looking for a while too for my son. This is one of the better deals around, good price for FHD IPS, i3, 256Gb SSD. Bought, thanks.

Sorry forgot about the backlit keyboard! This is 'optional'

Can anyone say much about this screen? Is it ips is it pleasing to use? Always the deciding factor for me

This can be quite subjective and influenced by a number of factors. There's no substitute for actually going to look at one unfortunately.

I can't find any information if this has an IPS for the UK version either. Even on the official site, why so secretive Asus? Instead they shout about it's nano edge like it's a massive deal.

Sorry for the delay. Yes, the keyboard from Costco DOES have a backbit keyboard, although I have to have it on the highest (of 3 settings) to make it really clear. I bought mine for my Mum, and she needs it as clear as poss! It also has USB-C. The codes are the same, so I would be optimistic that the JL one is the same.
JL one does have back lite keyboard, seems a well built machine, nice and compact with the thin bezel. Should be ideal for school for my lad.
