Asus Vivobook X405 Laptop £399 in Currys

TBH, I am no expert but I'm looking for a new laptop for my girlfriend. She only surfs the web and uploads videos to youtube as well as manages her photos. Would this be a good buy for her or are there better deals out there?

Could you point me in the direction for an i5 with 8gb for £400 please. …Could you point me in the direction for an i5 with 8gb for £400 please. Been looking for weeks for my son and can't find anything like that.

Best I could find is £449

Quite expensive machine but I wouldn't expect nothing more from Currys. You can get 8GB of Ram.. not that you need it and i5 processor for less. Nice design tho

i3 is a good entry level processor, 4gb is adequate for basic tasks and 128gb ssd is enough for a system drive. However, if you manage a lot of photos and videos you may find you need more space. The main issue with this is the poor screen, which isn't FullHD resolution.

To be fair, it's not a bad laptop for the things your girlfriend needs. But it's not exactly deal of the decade. It's a basic processor and low-ish ram for these days. It'll grind to a snails pace within about 18 months.

That's the problem with her old one

Garbage 768p screen.
Only 4GB RAM.

Give it a miss mate.

I don't see why unless you're bloating it up. Seems fine for basic requirements. If you're more demanding, then obviously get something higher spec. Only thing I'd say to look out for is if you're constantly adding and removing media which won't be good for the drive, though being an ssd should help with loading times. The screen is low res though as mentioned.

Highly unlikely that would be a problem as you'd literally have to fill up the free space and delete it multiple times per day for years.

Well the OP was mentioning about uploading vids to youtube, so if his GF wants to use the HDD to store the vids and then free up the space, then that could definitely be a factor. There's no note on what the SSD is, so it may not have as high write cycles as some other SSDs, plus having 120GB makes it easy to fill up. Like I say, I'm sure it's a good fit for some people, but after having an SSD myself go bad with storing media on a HDD, it's something to take note of imo. Though perhaps I also wasn't quite as lucky too.

I think she uploads the vids straight from the SD card.

I can't get those Dell links to work

Me neither, so don't know what the price is. The other laptops recommended for £450+ also do not have an SSD which would add to the price.
