Ordered and received it yesterday. Already set up everything and I have to say this is a great machine for this price. Cant get better specs for 230 quids as new. For basic tasks, everyday use this is ok and fast enough. What amazon does not say and pics are misleading are: No microSD slot, no backlit keyboard, no fingerprint reader. Screen is FullHD but TN, not IPS. Mediocre and not the sharpest one, washed out a bit. Speakers are working. That is the best what I can say about them. Sounds like someone speaks under the sea in a tank.....Keyboard is mediocre as well, not that bad but that one and the chassis feel cheap a bit although built quality as a plastic cased laptop is nice. Lightweight as well and has small form factor. Memory is 4 gb onboard as soldered + 4 gb upgradable (up to 16 gb, ddr4 3200 mhz). Wifi card is Realtek RTL8821CE, ac, BT 5.0, 1*1. Average. Not the fastest one as speed is 433 mbps. But this one is upgradable as well. Also has an empty space for HDD, but sata cable (and optional caddy) will be needed to install inside. Battery is really new now but with light use, medium brightness I could read articles on web for about 4-5 Hrs. Battery life is gonna be below average I guess.
SSD is WD SN530, 256 gb, 2500/950 read/write speed, tested.
All in all, beside cons this is a great entry level laptop.

Yeh. It is decent for the price. For this price most other things are celerons with 4gb of ram. (edited)

What's with this Windows S Mode. The Amazon one is Windows 11 Home. Will this be a cheaper Windows version.
    Willy_Wonka's avatar
You can change from Windows S to Windows Home.

"There's no charge to switch out of S mode. On your PC running Windows 10 in S mode, open Settings > Update & Security > Activation. In the Switch to Windows 10 Home or Switch to Windows 10 Pro section, select Go to the Store."

This is a great deal! Is it worth it though 'upgrading' to the i5 for an additional £100 (also in Argos)? My son uses his current one for school work and online games. I'm leaning towards the i5 having read a few comparison reviews for i3 v i5. Saying that, £100 is £100! I'm torn between saving money (aren't we all!) and not regretting paying the extra to get (hopefully) something better. Any advice folks?
    Eptesicus's avatar
Personally, i wouldn't bother. It isnt the I5 with the better onboard gpu (iris), so i cant think of anything whereby one would notice much of a difference between the two.

i think literally the only difference between the two is that the CPU has 4 cores and 8 threads instead of 2 cores and 4 threads. So you have virtually exactly the same single core speed.

Honestly, i don't think it is worth £100, and if you are starting to spend £329, there are much better options for not alot more.

i think the i3 model is a really good deal for a capable web browsing/office machine. The i5 model at that price is an average deal at best.

if you want something for gaming, look elsewhere (try at least to get something with better onboard like the Iris cpus) (edited)

Would this be any good for a teacher?
    leondas's avatar
Depends of his usage. If he/she uses office 365, web browser a lot, making presentations than yes. Webcam is awful but a seperate one with usb connection worths the shot. If he/she wants to edit videos or photos for his job than this one would be slow. It can do it reasonably but still. If this would be his one and only laptop than no, go for a ryzen 5 or intel i5 at least! Plus 14 inch because of portability. If money talks -and it is always talking....- than go for 2 gens behind...ryzen 5- 4xxx or i5-10th gen.

Wanted to ask if anyone else is getting a buzzing noise on the left side of the laptop? It's very quiet but consistent. Is this totally normal? Thanks

Still on offer for 229. Or again I mean.
  32. Cris_Predoiu's avatar
The processor i3 is very slow ,beware
    Willy_Wonka's avatar
    Based on what?

Are you talking this particular generation of i3 or one you tried out 5 years ago? There are dozens of different i3 processors. Not like Ryzen 3s.
  33. The_Gatesheader's avatar
Is this worth the extra few quid to upgrade to a seemingly waaay better laptop?
    ao.com/pro…ad4 (edited)
    Willy_Wonka's avatar
It is not an extra few quid.

    It is an extra £170

Nearly double. What 80% extra? (edited)

wat is current ram and upgrade possibilities? is it single 8gb so i can add a further 8 to make16gb ddr4 3200

I think it’s two 4gb ram. One is soldered
  37. jimmya982's avatar
Anyone else getting poor battery life with this model ?
    leondas's avatar
It is going to be normal. Battery is just 3700 mAh, so it last about 4-5 hours with light use...you can extand it with battery saving mode in settings which means the laptop will be slower than normal. (edited)
