Just picked one up for my mum, seemed a decent price for an i5 laptop, same one sold new at Pc world is £399,99.

Why cold? Any cheaper options for i5?

I'd be interested in why cold too - Is it the laptop itself or because it's a refurb?
Seems to have 12 months warranty according to info. I know some online only outlets offer refurb laptops with all but dead batteries, but I'd have thought C/PCW would be along the same quality lines as apple refurbs, or am I mistaken ?

Its a decent enough spec for the price, guess people just don't like refurbished machines. Refurbished means different things to different companies, so it depends on the level of refurbishment these machines have. Are they A+ as new, with new fitted battery, etc., or are they used returns that have only had a quick windows restore done and an antibacterial wipe done...

Not voted either way as I don't know the level of refurb done.

last laptop I bought as refurbished from Pc world lasted 7 years and was mint, 12 month warrantee protects my purchase and I'm confident that if it's a lemon then I'll know within a year. if this deal is of use to anyone then great, but I certainly won't be put off by the word refurbished.

That's what I'm thinking.. i think it's a decent warm deal for decent i5 laptop

Sainsburys, £10 more for a new Acer one with touchscreen.

Do you have a link?

They sold out weeks ago. No point in mentioning that one.

I'm struggling to find anything better atm

My laptop turned up today, can't say much more than its Mint, not a blemish, I think I got a decent deal.

Was it packaged in original branded packaging or plain box. I'm looking for a laptop for xmas present.

Thanks.

I'm about to receive mine (by 1pm), will report about the state of the product

Battery life would be interesting to know too - I know it's difficult to judge, but it would probably be obvious if it was really short indicating quite a well used battery

Thanks in advance.

So, battery life: can't say anything now.

The laptop itself: the shell looks immaculate. Inside there are three 1mm x 1mm dots on the silver casing. And that would be it.
Screen is clear, no marks.

It came in a brown box, without mentioning it's refurbished. Just laptop, charger and battery (all looked like new).

isn't there a counter of some sort showing amount of uptime? Thought I'd read it somewhere.......

No idea mate.

The battery life in battery saving mode is around 3-3.5h. Good result because this laptop has a tiny battery.
It's very light and the build quality is more than decent.
Over and out

Im ever so sorry I took this long to get back to you.

It came in a plain brown box, with a couple of generic instructions inside, saying how to connect it to the charger etc.. Then there was the charger itself, the battery and nothing else. There was no official Asus instruction manual, or any other leads such as HDMI, just the above.
