Would this play tekkit, runescape and Day Z decently?

Would this play tekkit, runescape and Day Z decently?

No chance with DayZ. Being a beta it's poorly optimized at the moment. Even my overclocked AMD 290 card paired with my overclocked i5-4690K doesn't run it well on all the highest settings, yet I can max out other very demanding games like Metro 2033 and Watch Dogs.

Runescape isn't really demanding at all so you might be able to run that without too many problems.

Hi guys/gals at the moment I have a Lenovo G580 and processor is a i3-2370M 2.4GHz

I just wanted to know if this laptop will be much better performance? I'll be adding my SSD 250gb and maybe another 4gb RAM

Thanks

The i5-4210Y which I believe is this CPU is, is about as powerful as a decent Core 2 Duo in performance terms, you might be surprised by that, but it goes to show that 8 year old C2D performance is still relevant today, this will have much better thermal and power consumption properties than a C2D.

Sure. This laptop will give you millions of extra operations every second. More than you can do with a calculator in a year. It will speed up the boot time of operating system by at least two hundreds of a second.

Next time when asking such questions, specify what tasks you are using your laptop for. I5 won't speed up your porn or internet.

Just looking at passmark scores, you get 3425 on the i5-4210U and 2767 on the i3-2370M, but that's not the whole story.
For passmark benchmark numbers see: cpubenchmark.net/mid…tml

The i3 chip runs at 2.4GHz and the i5 at 1.7GHz with a turbo of 2.7GHz. What's not clear is how much of the passmark scores come from the turbo or how long the turbo can be sustained. If it's running turbo then it's going to get hotter and louder as the fans kick in. It seems likely that the i5 won't be very much faster much of the time when turbo isn't in use and you are probably only getting a 25% performance increase at peak. That hardly seems worth shelling out £329 for.

Of course if your current graphics isn't as good then you might gain a bit more, but personally I would save a bit longer until I could afford something with dedicated AMD or NVidia graphics and a better chip upgrade.

Disk is the bottleneck in most laptops. the i3 is a very capable CPU. You'd probably see much more benefit from adding an SSD than from changing to a faster processor. As mentioned unless you have other requirements like gaming performance where you might want a laptop with discrete gfx.

In light of the comment above regarding a dedicated graphics card, would this be a better option?

Probably be better to just spend the money on putting a ssd on your current one as you won't get massive gains from getting this laptop and you can always put the ssd elsewhere when you don't use your current one

Just ordered, thanks OP! Heat added.

I bought refurbished K56CA for £270 from Argos Outlet which was delivered yesterday. Broken internal speakers, no Win8 license, display lid problems and weird touchpad misplacement (during the assembly?) causing the right button to be "on top" of the casing. That was a joke.

How do you get the o2 discount?

i5 at reasonable price, but CPU rating a very, very average 3400 ish! aim for 5000+ if you do anything heavy!

That depends on what you plan to use it for, but judging that you have a M series processor, and this is a U series, the difference between the two won't be that great, I'd say maybe 30% boost in performance.

This is a 4210U not Y series, the base clock is 1.7Ghz and boost is 2.7Ghz, which matched the clock speeds on the Intel website the 4210Y has a base clock of 1.5Ghz and a boost of 1.9Ghz. It wouldn't really make sense to put in a Y processor on a laptop like this, it's only really useful for a more compact built ultrabook, where thermal throttling would be an issue.

What do you mean by it doesnt like 1080p?

As you are planning on using it for recordings be warned recordings use up space like crazy so you wont manage well with a laptop in general as they are limited to 2'5" drives that are either SSDs that will cost a lot per GB or HDDs that are 5400rpm and either is not really that great of an option.

They were coming with 4GB RAM back in 2008. I want 8GB by now.

Can you add a SSD on this laptop
Any one

Also is this Matt or glossy screen please

@RSRSRS: Glossy display.
If wouldn't worry about the access to HDD though, you can just disassemble it, however I got your point - warranty.

This model is exactly X555LA-XX273H.

On this video with model X551M, which looks *quite* the same, you can see that it is relatively easy.

I would say don't worry at all - you can replace the drive easily.

Edit: See 3rd page of comments here for pictures with this model internals.

Balls, just bought this from Tesco's at the weekend for £400!

Just went into Currys to pick one up that I had reserved for my daughter for her Christmas. Couldn't bring myself to buy it - very, very dull looking machine sat next to some really funky things. .

Saw this one there which looked great in the flesh -:

currys.co.uk/gbu…tml

Also available in black. AMD A8 as opposed to Intel i5, but all online comparisons have the processors as very similar. However, the HP has 8 gig of RAM, a better battery and HD webcam (Asus is only VGA),

To me the HP seemed as good or better in terms of value. I'd appreciate any expert advice.
