Hard to say - This seems like a good price for the specs imo

Good Reviews on Amazon....
Funny that...I've just setup the i5 of this model ....looks good and fast

is it not the same ppl. have been complaining about the screen when i5 deal appeared on HUKD for £360?

I think there is another website where this model is also for sale at £499 (can't remember which one!) but only the 1yr warranty whereas you get 3 with JL. Good price but I'm hoping it'll be a bit cheaper in the sales.

Would anyone mind comparing this laptop with this ThinkPad hotukdeals.com/dea…175 please? I've bought the ThinkPad but I presume it could still be returned if the ASUS is better.

Only differences I see is the Lenovo having dedicated graphics, fingerprint reader & a slightly better battery over this Asus.
I would save yourself £100 and get this Asus instead of the Lenovo if you're not looking to do any gaming.
Oh and you also get 3 Years Guarantee with John Lewis.
Hope this helps!

The dedicated graphics (R7 M260) in the Lenovo are certainly not worth £100. They're not as good as the best integrated Intel graphics even.

voted hot. I'm tempted myself. my only concern is earlier remarks by ppl. that the screen on these although full HD is aweful. can anyone comment on the screen quality pls.

I can't see whether keyboard is backlit. JL website doesn't say. Does anyone know?
At this price that would be a deal breaker for me having used one for the past 3 years.

my missus just got one, typing this on it, can confirm screen is poor, not ips, not glossy, poor tn panel, keyboard to firm for my taste, spongy touchpad responsiveness

seems zippy though, even with all the bloatware, that blue light reducing utility is easy to use

conclusion: recommend to missus it goes back

oh, and something else, 372gb of the hdd is reserved for the os, so if you need a terabyte you will need to use linux to re-partition

I've been thinking of buying this for my son for Christmas. Is anyone able to advise how this laptop compares to m.johnlewis.com/mt/…798

Or this m.johnlewis.com/mt/…692

Or this one please m.johnlewis.com/mt/…774

I'm going round in circles looking for a laptop for school work, YouTube, social media etc. I would prefer to bully from John Lewis due to the guarantee and budget is up to £500 although I would prefer less if possible. I would like an Intel processor and have been advised to buy 8gb ram & 1TB.

I'd really appreciate any help anyone can offer. Thank you

It's a good price but like most of the i7 deals it's a dual core. As said above, the i5 version has been much cheaper and it's only a tiny bit slower than the i7 in this. It's just not worth the extra in my opinion

brill but u could find better deals on ebay(minefield lol)

give the 3 year warranty a thumbs up lol

ebay.co.uk/ulk…729

Just bought this for £550 with eBay code account specific only

Ok I'm tempted here.
Are there any better £500 deals out there?

I'm after a fast one for Microsoft stuff and the Internet. Is this above my spec?

Cheers fellas and gals

hi nelltheelephant and welcome to HUKD
if you wish other to be able to compare
you can to make it easier and insert the items as links
when you post look to the upper right for an icon that looks abit like a paperclip, if you press this first then paste the link into that it will make your link highlighted and clickable

have a look at this, my son has one, plenty fast enough for browsing and good enough for most modern games on low res settings, cpu about 10% - 15% worse than the adus

i can confirm screen is really good, and so is speaker sound, battery life is ok to good, shame John Lewis does not do this model but it is £50 than the asus

Need a laptop too. Thinking might wait till next week for the sales

Good deal for the specs, however I think there will be better deals around next week for cheaper.

I bought the i5 version from PC World recently for work, to replace an old HP. In my opinion the screen is good, the laptop boots really quickly runs cool and quietly and feels of a decent build quality for the money. Also, it's thin and much lighter than my previous laptop. Overall I'm very happy with it. I suppose all opinions are relative to an extent but thumbs up from me.

In short, it's "better" than all three of those. I like Dell so would always check their website, and the inspiron 15 5000 range comes close. But looking at their site today they can't beat the spec of this asus for the price.
If you can't wait for the sales this might be a good deal. If you have the time or a nearby store, go to JL and ask to play with one.

Seems an excellent price. Good enough for me to cancel a laptop purchase I'd made elsewhere. Heat added.

Very tempted.
3 year warranty is the clincher

cold two expensive

Thank you very much for taking the trouble to reply. Unfortunately Santa has to deliver on the 25th so I've been to John Lewis, had a look, and made the purchase. I hope you have a good Christmas. Thanks again.

Does anyone know the full model of this? Too many x555la's on google with different specs

Looking for reviews for this specific laptop

Decent price but got the 12Gb 1.5Tb drive version earlier in the year for £440 in John Lewis Cambridge on sale.

For a laptop i7 CPU the performance is on the low end of the spectrum. My midrange i5 laptop gets the same points than this in benchmarks. 15w is pretty nice through.

Pretty sure that one was the subject of an earlier deal, I was tempted so went to Curry's to have a look at a display model, CPU is OK, resolution is fhd but the panel is a tn so viewing angles are hopeless, especially the vertical plane, end up having to adjust tilt all the time because wherever you look high or low on the screen it looks off, didn't like case texture either and thought build quality poor, if you expect to keep and use regularly for some years extra investment in the Toshiba is well worth it in my opinion, think its reduced now to £430

Couldn't believe it myself, either they expect you to do a hell of a lot of backups or it was an ex display model somebody had messed about with, doesn't sound like john lewis though, I'd be interested if anybody else has one or access to one to have a look, right click on start button, then left click disk management, should show a list at top and graphic below showing partitions
