This was my favourite laptop during the month or so I spent looking at laptops. I eventually bought a Dell Latitude, but I sometimes wish that I had a laptop like this one which is lighter, as I bought it to replace a tablet. Voted hot, and thanks for sharing the deal with the HUKD members.
Hmm is this a mistake on Amazon? No 1080? Shame screen appears very bad:

  • Display diagonal: 35.6 cm (14"), Display resolution: 1366 x 768 pixels, Ultra Slim 200nits, Glare//NTSC: 45%//Touch

Then further listing states:

Argghhhhh. That's just changed in the last 10 minutes - was live as an actual order when I posted the deal. Maybe they went to pre-order status in meantime due to people clicking through to it from here?! :-/

is it Full HD?
is it IPS or TN?
is it glossy?
does the screen use PWM?

@Shiraz_Jiwa i took the plunge when the deal was active - check the new and used section and amazon still have it listed under £629 (assuming they honour any of this)

I just had a look and you can go to the "new and used from £629.00"; this allows you to seemingly pre-order it at £629.00. No delivery timescale given though.
But basic laptop compared to xps?
This is a pretty awesome price for an asus zenbook ultrabook, for an i7 8550u as well, not sure why asus used a usb 2.0 spec on one side though! I'd jump at this if i didn't have my current laptop, great first post!

Whats the build quality on these?
This is over-priced at £849 let alone a £1,000. It is trying to compete with the XPS 13 but has a poor screen, much poorer keyboard and much less real life battery life.

RAM is soldered on. Has a slower drive than the XPS also. Wi fi card is good though.

In short this really should be in the low £600's to begin with. IMPO the price ASUS wants for this is seriously over-priced. The only good tbing about it is the new i7 to lure in buyers but that is a waste of a fast chip considering the other components.

If you can get it for £630 then that is OK IMPO but I would not pay a penny more.
Here is a mobile tech review of basically the same model except that the reviewed model has 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD - this spec is about $800 in the US so you see how over-priced the UK version is.

The rest appears the same.

RAM is only 1600mhz which seems a bit cr**py for the price.

Would go for this myself if I was after a cheap, half decent 14":

And this if you're not bothered for 14" or 15.6":

Second one is OOS.
Reviews for this seem mixed...

Prefer a bigger 15'' or 17'' screen for opening two documents side by side, but 14'' is better for portability.

Now showing at £799 for me
Hasn’t got good reviews on Amazon most pointing to really bad battery life

if you go to the link OP posted a few posts back for the specs shown on Asus' website, the screen states to be 1080p 100% sRGB color gamut, can't see how that means it's a bad screen, ram soldered is always soldered on ultraportables, not looked into the other stuff though, I think keyboard is subjective though, perhaps they wanted to keep it thin at just 1.59cm in height, but otherwise year, I agree, 16gb ram would be much nicer, but thats rarely seen on a £630 laptop, it's also marketed as a zenbook, which is their more higher-end laptops, these are to be in competition with XPS 13s which are 900+ (I think? - not looked into the XPS 13s, just know they are top end devices) and in terms of the UK market being screwed over, that's always the case, not surprising

Dim screen. Not XPS quality but they try to charge bigh price here in the UK. As I said, it is a £600 laptop.

I think you are missing the point that this is a lightweight ultrabook. Last I looked, those with 1060s were twice as heavy!
Fair point lol hopefully AMD bring out their integrated chipsets for laptops so they can be as slimline and more portable!
Does anyone know when these pre order laptops will become available by Amazon ? I purchased one on Friday, but no sign when it'll be released
Same here, i cant wait to have this laptop and dont understand the issue, it wasnt a preorder in the first place
I wonder what the brand of the SSD is in this zenbook, does anyone know by chance ?
To answer my own question , it's a SanDisk
Received it today, no touch screen which is contradictory to the specs mentioned.

I don't think touchscreen was mentioned anywhere. How's the laptop in general ?
