Great system for the money. Pity no TPM support

Does that mean you can't encrypt with windows 10 pro
Overpriced because it's last gen intel processor, not the most recent one with better power efficiency. An i5 10th gen is better that i7 8th gen so factor that in when you buy.

You can but have to use software encryption which is dog slow. You can edit the registry in windows 10 to allow this. Check out tech notes and instructional videos online if needed. I used software bitlocker in a few cases but it’s sloooooow. Hardware encryption is pretty much transparent. Just be aware there were some vulnerability issues to be aware of reported in 2018. Not checked the status since.
For the price would expect a better graphics card, personally would shop around for something a bit more powerful on graphics card side for the pricetag of a grand.

Maybe a 1660 graphics card for this sort of price in a discounted period.

Cold from me. For a grand, I'd expect a better GFX card than a 1050, and the processor has been superseded by lower tiers from the latest gen.

Slows the system while the drive is encrypting or slow in the process of encrypting the drive or both
Not good for the price, you basically pay a lot for the form factor. And if that's what you care the most about, you might as well go for an HP Envy x360.

Both. Once encrypted the task of on-the-fly read/write encryption/decryption is done in software by the cpu. This is system heavy and relatively slow. With hardware encryption it’s offloaded to the drives dedicated hardware.

Are there any good alternatives with similar or better specs on sale just now?
Quite a lot of negative comments on here. However this is a laptop that is super thin and portable in a 14 inch chassis. The laptop has a second screen at the touchpad which can be helpful if you’re multitasking or doing video or photo editing.

The main screen is also touchscreen with 100% colour accuracy ips panel. The bezel is pretty thin.

The laptop is also very light considering it has a dedicated GPU. It also has nice extras like windows hello ir camera. I also really like the zenbook concentric rings aesthetic but of course that’s very subjective.

However it is last gen whiskey lake with last gen gtx card. However it Is unlikely anyone will feel any difference in speed between this and the new icelake processor. The gtx 1050 is more than enough for a bit of light gaming or assist with video editing or whatever. If serious performance is what you’re after you can’t expect to do it within such a light chassis.

For the price this isn’t too bad. You will not likely find a premium latest gen thin and light laptop like this at 14’inch with a 1050 gpu at this price. But it’s not like a bargain of the century either, there’s plenty of other laptops at this price which are decent as well.
