Not sure what you're seeing, mate.

For the price this seems really poor.
Yep your right we **** of Macbooks at this price but give this one 6 months and we bother a 1/4 of what you paid
Be worth 1/4 of what you paid sorry

I've always been anti apple, as a result im oblivious to whats on the apple market. I do know that they hold value for alot longet.
Just out of interest, how much would an apple product of this spec cost?

I'm not sure it's awesome, even though it's an i7 the processor is only the low power dual core version. I guess it's overpriced but OK if you don't need the processing power.
its an i7 at an over inflated price, whats it for? not gaming and at this price it should! intel vga is poop

About £900
AWFUL for the price.

About £900

????
Certainly not with i7
The first UX303L had an earlier i7, half the RAM (6GB) and half the SSD (128GB) and was priced at £700 - £750.
It sold in large numbers and took a huge bite out of the apple, because it was a better deal and arguably a better machine that any in its price range.
This one is a tad over-priced, but with a three-year warranty, looks a sweet deal.
Oh, and if you can find a pre-enjoyed example of the original, you will be expected to pay a lot of money.
Feel free to do the research.
I am hoping Asus will release the -LN of this edition over here, with a discrete graphics chip (drool) which was only available in the US or Germany. The 520 is a reasonable chipset, but with an Nvidia, this is the ultimate gaming Ultra-Portable !!
Merry Christmas
Appalling Specs for the Money - you don't even get a proper i7 - Just a rebadged i3 processor! Nor any dedicated graphics. Ice cold from me.

It's an ultrabook, it's meant to be thin and light with a long battery life. You get none of those with the additions you mentioned
No dedicated graphics, about £200 over priced for spec. XPS13 was a better spec for an ultra book

Of course it is a proper i7 processor. Don't make things up, it just makes you look silly.
U proccessors are low power rubbish. QM and HP and MQ processors are proper quad core i7 processors!! Specs aint too bad but it is poor specs for the money
An "ultrabook" is NOT a gaming laptop. Yes, you can have better for the price if you buy a "twice heavier laptop".

Either twice as heavy, or a few hundred quid more expensive.

The £899 Macbook Pro doesn't even have a proper i5. Your point?

No, it seriously isnt. An i7 is supposed to be a high end processor, a Dual Core isn't a high end processor. Its badge engineered - designed to lure in people in and think "wow! its an i7" where its a slow dual core. Dont fall into intels consumer trap.

Dual core i7's have been around since early 2010. A dual core i7 is still the highest end of the Intel dual core CPUs. I think if you assume an i7 is a quad core of higher then more fool you.

I am aware of when they were introduced. Doesnt make them into a high end processor though does it? I highly doubt anyone thinks "i want a high end dual core over a quad core" or if you do then you're the fool.

I have a Core i7-3610QM in a dell laptop - a true I7 quad core processor (mobile) from 2012. Compare it to this "i7" processor on passmark -

Hardly qualifies as a high end processor does it?? I dont see why your so supportive of such a poor processor.

So this is what you originally said which you obviously made up. An i7 has different architectural features than an i3 so the CPU in question cannot be a "rebadged i3"

As regards this not being a 'proper i7' it is Intel who decides what constitutes an i7 not you. As I said before anyone who thinks an i7 should always be a quad core CPU is mistaken, they need to accept the truth that dual core i7's exist and have existed for a long time.

Obviously a quad core CPU is going to be faster in multi-threaded work loads than a dual core CPU, but a dual core i7 is still a high end dual core CPU.

I notice that you did not include the performance per Watt figures for both of those CPUs. The dual core i7 perf/Watt is significantly higher than that of the quad core cpu, meaning it can do the same amount of work by using far less energy. This could also be considered a "high end" metric as many users prefer to make more efficient use of their battery power.

Some people would very reasonably want a faster dual core CPU. Completely depends what you are doing. More cores /= faster.

So in your eyes, If intel are not using the i7 name to make a processor sound better than it is - then why did they use the i7 name rather than the i3 or even i5? If what you are saying is true, then the i7 name means absolutely nothing and an i3 could be equally as good as an i7. I ask you then, what is the difference between an i3 and an i7 processor? Why dont Intel just call all their processors i7s including the pentiums?

Take a look at the chart cpubenchmark.net/hig…tml
and look at the number of i3s and i5s above it.

I still very strongly stand by my point that this is not a proper i7 processor, and this is a badge engineered effort by intel, unless you can prove to me otherwise.

Unless your using older apps, upto date apps are optimized to make use of multiple cores. I agree certain scenarios do warrant a faster clock speed (emulators) but these are fairly niche.
I just got it at £780.00
