Amazon listing states at top the quite a bit superior Snapdragon 660, not 630, although 630 is mentioned elsewhere and the Asus site seems to suggest it can come with either!

Not a bad price.
Seems like an out of date phone lot more than it should be going by an earlier Chinese phone post on here with similar/better specs

Scores 4 out of 5 here, that was only September 2017 and the phone costs £450.

The review I read says it'll get Oreo. To get a phone at this price with OIS is pretty good although I didn't like the sound of buggy camera software and I'm assuming you can't switch to a different camera app if you want to make use of the dual camera features. Also didn't like the sound of how easily scratched it is.
Still a good £50 overpriced

I can't think of any UK distributed non grey import phone with a similar spec for less than this, or the same price for that matter. Would be a real hot bargain except for the caveats I mentioned.

Hardly the same as ordering from China though when it's in stock in the UK for next day prime delivery.

For all it'll get updated, the appearance alone is two years out of date whereas you can get the full screen, face recognition chinese phones for less than this.

Appearance? Personally I don't get sucked in by 18:9 screens, it's about having a good camera with OIS, and up to date bug free Android first and foremost. There's an article just the other day about the number of android phones with malware inadvertently installed during manufacture, all of them Chinese no brand/low brand. Asus is a top tier manufacturer.

... Although I wouldn't buy a pink phone so there's that

Good luck getting any updates to Oreo though, or getting it fixed if it goes wrong, and it doesn't meet the criteria I set out having OIS either. I know which I'd rather...

Well thats you. Ever thought it may not apply to most phone buyers ? And you know it's a "better camera" how ? Some of these Chinese phones I mention have Sony cameras
Asus is top tier. But that doesn't stop them producing an over-expensive old fashioned model and expecting it to sell on a name. They've ALL done it, including Sony, Samsung, Panasonic,

You're right it doesn't apply to most buyers... In China. There's a reason why Chinese phones sell in small amounts here, because it does apply to most buyers. And as I have pointed out several times, getting OIS is almost unheard of at this price point.

As for the cameras, I have yet to see a review of a chinese phone where the camera is picked out as a strong point of the phone (and for me it is one of the top 3 things I am interested in in a phone, along with a lot of people), especially over branded phones, but if there's one out there, I'd be interested to know about it. Many many phones have Sony sensors, but even Sony often don't get very good or consistent results out of them.

Serious pre- installed stubborm bloatware on Asus phones, which would otherwise be great phones - beware!

Its from Amazon, if it breaks I'll send it back :-)

Yeah good point about Oreo though...it may or may not get Oreo....if not I guess I'll have to either install Lineage 15.1 or just live with not running Oreo yet just like 98% of all other Android devices currently out there....

3.5/5 isn't exactly a stunning score for a phone that is "such good value" either, wonder why it's not higher? A review suggests the camera is pretty poor (and it is a poor aperture by current trends), where the Zenfone has a lot more going for it in that respect. Some of the reviews are fairly positive about the camera at its original price point (~£450) so for those of us who want a decent picture, this could be worth it, if the bugs of the software mentioned in some reviews have been ironed out.
Here's a sample of one pretty positive review for the camera (which is the reason IMO anyone should buy this if they are going to)

As you can see it has quite a lot to offer for someone wanting the best photos at the cheapest price. If you are not bothered about pics, and you are happy to take a risk to save a bit of money, then a chinese phone is better value, but not necessarily otherwise. Which is why most people still buy proper genuine UK stock phones like this and chinese phones are increasing but still very much a minority (let's face it, it's a minority that even buys anything other than Samsung!).

Dammit I might talk myself into one - this bit is pretty high praise for a camera phone

"Thanks to the 4-axis optical image stabilisation system, wide f/1.8 maximum aperture and maximum shutter speed of 32 seconds, the Asus Zenfone 4 performs well at night. This image was taken at the camera's ISO 25 sensitivity at a shutter speed of 32 seconds, and though there's some noise and detail smoothing, the result is still comparable to what a typical compact camera would produce."

If the second lens was telephoto instead of wide angle, I'd bite, but I'll hold off for the Nokia 7 Plus for that feature I think.

Does anyone else have a problem with amazon lockers for this item only? A number of amazon lockers locations show they are full, but when trying to buy any other item (including other mobile phones), it seems to be ok and they are not full anymore???
