Would this make the Wi-Fi from my bt hub go further? Yes. I have no idea other than the Wi-Fi in the kitchen is flaky and this may help.

On its own no. You need two of these things. One to act as a router whilst connected to your modem and the other as a node.

Been looking at this to extend my XT8. XT8 is relatively expensive so this is a great alternative.

Cheers for the heads up. (edited)

This is for one node. Does this replace the router or is it in addition to?

The write up is a bit poor as it doesn't seem to explicitly state which device it is. However, I believe this is a Router (XD4R) as opposed to a Node (XD4N) (as: if you check on the ASUS website it refers to the 1 pack as been the router).

That being said a XD4R can still be used as an additional slave/node/satellite if you already had an existing compatible router in place.

There's a website called dongknows that writes in great detail about all the mesh options out there, for the XD4 he writes:
"On the underside, the router unit (model XD4R) has two Gigabit network ports. One is a WAN/LAN port, and the other is a LAN port. The node (model XD4N) has just one LAN port. You can use this port to host a wired device or the backhaul link to the router.

Like all AiMesh routers, the XD4R can work either as the primary router or a node of another AiMesh system. The XD4N unit, however, can only work as a satellite. It can’t work as a router since it has no WAN port." (edited)

Also looks like ASUS have price matched (or vice versa) if people prefer to buy from ASUS. The prices for the 1-packs have sat at £90+ for quite awhile before today

Can I add this to an ai mesh Asus router as a node?

You can yup. It can act as a router or a node of another compatible ai mesh setup
