It's all a bit ironic: worrying about the loss of highstreet stores on what is effectively an Internet shopping "bargain" site.

Closing down?

Closing down?

Yes Debenhams are closing many uk stores.. this is one of the selected stores
I know this would happen anyway but morally for me it just feels wrong for me to buy from a closing down store. Something about the staff loosing their jobs and loosing another shop on the high street just takes away any benefit of getting a possible bargain. Its possible the final few sales help them, but its like locking a gate after the horse has bolted.

Based on my experience of similar sales at Wimbledon and Wandsworth, even 50% isn't really a good value.

Is it open today
Thanks
Still loads of stock in there, popped in yesterday as I didnt get the obligatory socks and pants for xmas, defo some bargains
I was in my local BHS in their final few days before closing, a fellow customer said that it was a real shame they were closing but in the same breath added that he expected the discounts to be greater, all this within earshot of staff who were going to be out of work next week and didn't know at the time the pension black hole that awaited them courtesy of a Mr Green.
This should be available in all stores later this year during their closing down sales.
So are they going out of business completely or trying to survive by closing a few stores

The alternative is that you don't buy anything and the staff still lose their jobs.

Closing some stores. Too many expensive locations - I have a choice of 3 in southwest London alone, but now closing down two of them.

They are palming off the stores where the rents are too high to justify trading from the footfall they now get. If they do it successfully Debenhams will continue to exist. For the time being anyway.
Debenhams in the Sheffield town centre is doing well, they are developing the city centre with new stores but debenhams is the only store their where it still looks like it's stuck in the 1980s. The place looks like it's crumbling. The third floor of the store looks sparce and has a lot of crap in clearance.
