Anyone know how this compares so the 8600GT?

Not knowing this card, I thought you were gonna say something along the lines of "cheapest elsewhere I could find was £96"....you saved £1.61

edit: just seen the bit about DDR3 vs DDR2 - one too many friday night 'Caiparinhas' here methinks, the saving seemed funny when I first read it.....I'll get me coat.

Slightly slower than the 8600GT but has many more features making it more worth the money than the 8600gt.

This seems like it’s going to be the standard price for the 256MB version, a little bit less than for the 2600 XT and with similar performance.

oh well.. I have orderd one and its comming on monday.

The card has only been out for about 4 days and the first to support DirectX 10.1, you will save around £15 with the price scan are charging and if you get free postage compared to others with postage charged.

Can anyone throw more light on this AV Forum Free Delivery option, please?

it says on the description:

Built for Microsoft® Windows Vista™

but im guessing it should work on a windows xp machine too right? (sorry if it sounds stupid lol)

oh and also, will this graphics card be good enough to play 'Crysis' or 'the orange box (half-life)' on medium - high settings?

atm i am using a Nvidia 7300LE and even with the lowest settings it runs really bad.

Anyone know how noisy the fan is on this card?

This card will struggle to play Crysis at medium settings no matter what res you are using.

This is not a gaming card by any means. This is a mid/low range card at a fairly decent price but I would spend the extra £40 and get the cheapest 3850 from Ebuyer, awesome card for the price, PS3/Xbox 360 beater for £90.

yes it would work fine in XP, Orange box would be fine. But with Crysis even the top end cards struggle.... with a 1024x768 and with minimal settings you will be able to play on this but the 3850 for around £100 would be better option for crysis. But most other games this card would be fine.

Voted cold. You could get an X1950GT for 10 quid more and it's much much better.

I'm tempted. What power supply does it need? I note that the 2900 in the other thread linked to above requires a whopping 550W plus supply!

Card came today.. very happy with it.

as for the above post, it don't need any extra power ports I think it takes in the range of 75w.

Cheers OP. Was looking for a reasonable spec ATi card for my Home Cinema box - spent weeks trying to get my 8600 working in Vista without a jerky picture - just removed the old drivers, added the new card and the ATi drivers and this card solves the problem. Highly recommended!
