How people can justify spending nearly a weeks wage on graphics cards is beyond me :?

Seems a bit irrelivant considering that costs 3x as much!

Like saying you can get a fairly nice house for £100,000 but IF you had £300,000 you could get a mansion.

Spend a bit more? Cut out the elitest cock waving competition please.

Why would you spend nearly £240 extra when the 4850 will still run absolutely everything you could possibly throw at it today with great ease?

Future proofing? Just buy the equivilent in 12 months time - you'll still be £100+ up and it'll probably last you longer still.

Its not really overkill, the Quad cores and the Dual cores are not really … Its not really overkill, the Quad cores and the Dual cores are not really that different in price, would recommend a current ATI graphics card though (4850) same(ish) price as the 8800GT and faster. Review here http://www.custompc.co.uk/reviews/60...n_hd_4850.html Bear in mind that the 8800GT compaired in benchmark results is a heavily overclocked one (i.e. more expensive than the 4850)

Hmm, wonder who was recommending 4850's just a week ago

// end cock waving proof

PML...

that got people going :P

Just thought i should mention that i voted this deal hot

Any idea how the performance compares to an 8800GTS?

Whats the temperatures like on this?

Temps are better with the new drivers that runs the fan at a more reasonable speed.

NEARLY a week?! I'll have your job please!

go to pc world and get them to match amazon on the sapphire 4850 when they do it will cost
you £103 as they are selling the sapphire for £115 and a few pence also you will have a store to take it back to if it breaks its also a Sapphire which is the best make and has a 2 year warranty where as all the rest bar the asus have 1 year.

heres the link print it off and take it to pc world price match +10%

It's 10% of the difference between amazon's price and the price they charge- not 10% off amazon's price!

PCWorld charge £150 for the card instore (£135 on the internet), so the difference to amazon's price is about £35- meaning they'll give you the card for amazon's price minus £3.50- or around £112.

Maybe this is why it is reduced - today ATI announced the release of the HD 4850 X2

Which is much better.

depends on how often you use it. same with a good pc LCD screen and chair.

i stare at a pc screen probably 70 hours a week if not more. probably some 4000 hours a year. so i have a very nice screen which costs £1000 and a very nice chair for £250. quite a lot compared to a normal screen (£200) and chair (£20) but over the 3 year life if not a bit longer it only adds less than 10 pennies per hour. well worth the lack of back pain or eye strain/head ache that cheaper equipment may cause..

if you hike for many hours a day you make sure you have good boots, if you drive for many hours a day you make sure you have a good reliable car, if you sit on your bum for many hours a day you make sure you have a decent chair ect. same with graphic cards, if you play games for many hours a day it is worth it. if you play a simple game for a few minutes a week it definitely isn't worth it.

and considering some people play 5 to 10 hours a day, it is definitely worth it for them.

yer but chairs don't need go obselete or halve in price every 6 months.

Chairs do if his **** gets any bigger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

anyway still voted hot.

How does this card compare to a Gecube HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 which I have looked into buying? Is it worth saving about £80 and going for this card?
