Hi all,

I'm guessing many of us will already be aware of this card and the wonderment of it (or perhaps the stupidity of ATI!).

Basically, the new ATI 4770 is a budget card price wise, but with massive bang for your buck. ATIs pricing has effectively placed it at a RRP of about £10-15 less than the older 4850, and this card is a match or beats the 4850 on most benchmarks.

This link is not so much a phenomenal deal for the 4770 - it is the cheapest I can find, but certainly not by much. However, for the power of the card it is a steal!

For comparison, the cheapest the 4850 is currently (as far as I am aware) is here:

hotukdeals.com/ite…3-/ (more than 10% more than this card).

A review is here:

Cold voters as usual....guys, no problem with cold voting, but please do say why!

I dont believe this card can be acquired cheaper at a reputable merchant (Eclipse computers are £3 less, but there are many horror stories on here about them).

very good card at not a bargain price - the same price nearly everywhere.

(]novatech.co.uk is even slightly cheaper + free supersaver delivery without need of posting at AV forums)

Great card for people who dont have powerful PSU's and now that ebuyer have sold out of this card this is the cheapest price.

Good point about Novatech, and also fair point about the price - it certainly isnt cheap compared to others. The post was more to make people aware of the card in comparison to the 4850.

Havent bitten the bullet yet myself, waiting to see if I get the expired Play deal on the 8800GT - but if I dont will be snapping this up!!

Exactly, this may be a good card for the price but this is basically its normal retail price so the deal is cold

Well, it doesnt make the deal "cold" jon does it.

Cold would be above normal price.

We will have to agree to differ on that one I guess, if a product is at its normal retail price then it is not a deal so will get voted cold by me, I thought this site was about finding bargains/products at cheaper prices than normal which this isn't

Original Poster

To my knowledge, this site is about finding products at their CHEAPEST price.

Big difference.

Anyway, as you say, will agree to disagree!

I didn't say cold ...maybe not so hot.

For someone entitled to free delivery from Scan, the deal still can be attractive (quicker delivery than Novatech's super saver).CS is superb at both retailers

It isn't the cheapest price either so definitely cold then by your own definition.

If cheapest price = same price as everywhere else it still isn't a good deal

You lost me Jon.

Never mind - agree to disagree.

It also states, unless I am misreading it, that it is an overdue pre-order item that is not in stock

Can be true regarding CS of Pixmania.I used them only once, everything was fine...

The price is great, though.
Second the best offer is from unknown to me retailer (B4U) and is £10 higher

Only problem with that is it's 50% more, I'd have to get a new PSU and loose my TV card out my PCI slot as it a twin slot or buy a new motherboard.

The 4770 is a gaming card that can be used for the tons of people who just have a stock machine who would like to play games.

That's right.
However, it's still very cheap taking into account performance @4870 1GB that cost much, much more.

Do not underestimate 4770 in terms of energy usage, I have read somewhere that it needs approx.90W .I would say it's more than I expected...

Its rated max of 80w so 90w is high, its 60w on load less than a 9800GTX+ and its cooler. I dont think a 4850 beats a 4870 so dont see how you can compare them especially when they have different SP. The 4770 isnt as good as the 4850 afaik but overclocked it is :P.

Not a hot deal but a good card.

This HD4850 has 1GB DDR5 not usual DDR3...4850 and 4870 have the same number of SPu (800) & SP(160) rest of the spec is exactly the same.that's why the card will be as quick as HD 4870...here is the deal

Yes it is great value for money, but not for everybody. I was waiting to replace my 2600XT DDR4 in my Dell which only has a 350w PSU so was waiting on something like the 4770.
So got one last week from ebuyer and all works fine. It even works without the power adapter plugged in but only out of 1 DVI, however haven't pushed it to see what happens. TBH did it by mistake as couldn't get the other DVI working then noticed I hadn't plugged the power in.

 Damm, I've just purchased a XFX 9800 GT XXX edition for £93 from Scan for a new rig I'm building. Have I boobed?:?

2 of these in crossfire and you've got a card that outperforms a 4890 as £40-50 cheaper...what were ATI thinking?! Great for the consumer though

post count for av forum is very minimal - so that's hardly an issue

I would say that it is incorrect to say it is equal or better to a 4850. In most circumstances it is a little worse performance.

It is possible to get a 4850 on OcUK for £75 exc. delivery. (free delivery for loyal forum members)

Doubt you will find any 4770 in the near future as TSMC has production issues with the GPU. However AMD are to fill the gap with a RV770LE (4830) overclocked to 700MHz with the 128bit memory controller and DDR5 called oddly 4730.
As a 4770 is $110 and £80 here and the 4730 is due to be $80 so should be sub £60 here. ATi must be making nothing out of this deal, most likely clearing of the stocks of memory controllers and DDR5 the bought in for the 4770. I bet Global Foundries had a big smile about this!
