I think this is a good price for this drive - there have been quite a few posted lately, and I can't tell, but I think it might be the cheapest I've seen for an external 300GB hard drive. I don't know much about the make however. It is £74.71 including super saver delivery from eBuyer.

Details: ATMT 300GB External USB2.0 / Firewire Hard Drive - Retail Box - see thread or site for full spec.

Good price, nice looking unit too. :-)

the warrenty period on hard drives is an important consideration they tend to fail quicker on portable devices.

Bargain emma!

Thanks Emma. The timing is perfect , I have about 160GB from my PhD to backup and this will be perfect, especially with the Firewire ports (I only have USB1). I had been looking at buying a bare drive and an external case but this deal is just right.

Cheers!!

This drive is todays special value offer, now only £70.49 + delivery.

Thanks for the positive comments everyone, and for voting hot hot hot!

This is not only a bargain, it looks sweet as well, as bargainboy says. Actually, my overactive imagination thinks it looks like something out of Terminator 3, coming to kill me... (!)

Just ordered two of these - don't forget 1.5% from ebuyer

nice price considering it has a firewire port

I thought that - but is there much difference between firewire and USB2? I though speedwise, they were about the same ??

I remember someone mentioning multi-tasking with firewire, but I'm not sure if that would be relevant in this case.

speedwise they are nearly the same but I heard firewire uses less cpu and in my case will be better as i have 2 firewire ports unused and all usb ports (4) are used

Good point there steff 8-)

Hi,

Firewire from what I understand is better for data integrity although USB external hard disk drives generally do what they say on the tin so to speak.
The hard disk drive is a Western Digital to the best of my knowledge making this a good buy IMHO.

HTH.

Cheers for your opinion mate  These are definitely a good buy.

Probably is only 1 year, i cannot see anything to state otherwise ijwia.

NB for Mac purchasers - the firewire chipset used by ATMT is the Profilic PL-3507 chip. I've found some negative comments on this but not enough to ring alarm bells - anyone here know different?

Yeah have a look at these posts to put you off!

I've backed up successfully but I think I'll invest in another Oxford chipped My Book rather than use both of these. Cheers

Does the My Book Premium have an Oxford chipset?
