Ellen Ripley finally returns to Earth, only to discover that LV-426 — where the crew of the Nostromo first came into contact with the deadly xenomorphs — has been renamed Acheron.
Protected by Colonial Marines, the colonists seek to terraform the storm-swept planet against all the odds. But in the face of brutal living conditions and the daily struggles of a new world, there is humanity and hope. Anne and Russell Jorden — two colonists who are seeking a fortune that eluded them on Earth — are expecting their firstborn child.
The birth of Rebecca Jorden, known to her family as Newt, is a cause for celebration. But as the colony grows and expands, so, too, do the political struggles between a small detachment of Colonial Marines and the Weyland-Yutani scientists posted on Acheron. Willing to overlook their orders in order to serve the Company's interests, these scientists have another far more sinister agenda — to covertly capture a living Alien.
The wildcatters discover a vast, decaying spaceship. The horseshoe-shaped vessel is of particular interest to Weyland-Yutani and may be the answer to their dreams. But what Anne and Russell find onboard proves to be the stuff not of dreams but of nightmares.
This terrifying, cinematic, multicast dramatization — directed by the multiaward-winning Dirk Maggs, best known for his adaptations of Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere for the BBC — is the sequel to Audible Original's Alien: Out of the Shadows (nominated for Best Audio Drama at the 2017 Audies).
Starring Golden Globe-nominated Anna Friel (Pushing Daisies, Limitless), Alexander Siddig (Star Trek: Deep Space 9, Game of Thrones), Michelle Ryan (Bionic Woman, Doctor Who), Colin Salmon (Alien vs Predator, Arrow, James Bond), Marc Warren (Mad Dogs, Saving Private Ryan, Hustle) and Philip Glenister (Outcast, Life on Mars), with special guest star William Hope returning as Lt. Gorman from James Cameron's Aliens.

An impressive cast, I'm in.

Awesome been waiting for this to drop. Thanks
Great book
Great price. I'm real confused about the reading order though. I've read Out Of The Shadows. Does this follow that?
cheers
Brilliant audio book. They need to do more dramatizations.

yes, and then "Sea of Sorrows" releases on 26th April is the 3rd in the Audible Originals series (I think)
Was about to buy this but see it's part of a series? Maybe I'll still buy and find the other book cheap.
As long as Ridley Scott didn't direct it!
So is this basically Aliens?

Looking at the Kindle version, this is Book 3:

Out of the Shadows
Sea of Sorrows
River of Pain

amazon.co.uk/Ali…ien

Cold Forge released in two weeks, not sure if this is part of the same series.

Alien fan, but I have the book Bug Hunt which I haven't even started, so I'll hold off adding to the backlog of audiobooks
according to: audible.co.uk/ser…XCD

this is book 2 and the new release later this month is set "300 years" after 1 and 2.

the numbering is confusing, and there is conflicting info on Audible vs. Kindle

in the "Audible Originals Alien" audiobook series, book 1 is 'Out of the Shadows', book 2 is 'River of Pain' and book 3 is 'Sea of Sorrows' (which isn't out yet):

audible.co.uk/ser…s_1

the numbering is different when all Alien audiobooks are included(film adaptations etc.), and is probably different again for Kindle books
I have listened to both, out of the shadows is set between Alien and Aliens and is a fairly independent story, this is like a direct prequel to Aliens and is very much tied in to the movie. There are references to out of the shadows but it's not required to read first. In my opinion anyone who enjoyed Aliens will enjoy this to flesh out the backstory but taken purely on its own merit it is a decent but not great story. Voice acting is very good.

This is actually free with a 30 day free trial, if you choose it. Obviously, if you're not registered already. I'm tempted to register for the free 30 day trial, get Out of the Shadows as my free audiobook as it's normally £14.99, and then get the deal of the day book for the £1.99.

Seems a waste of a free trial to me, there are audio books on Audible that cost a lot like the Stephen Fry read Sherlock Holmes which is £79.99. Better to use a free trial on something that costs a lot & buy a £1.99 offer for money as a single credit is £7.99 each.
Bought, thanks. However just like the other 3 or 4 books I have will I ever get round to listening from beginning, never mind the end?

I've got 180 audible titles, I think I've listened to about 120.
So I've got around 60 books to get listened to.
DOTD offers just add to the pile.

I know the feeling but I always end up listening to these Audible original dramas as they are usually a good length. It's the 60 hour Dostoevsky books that sit there figuratively gathering dust.

Apparently, the books from the 1990's are much better than these latest ones.

Just sorted my library by book length just to see what the longest book I have is.
The Sherlock Holmes Stephen Fry book is over 70 hours long but at least it's short stories so it's easier to dip in & out.
The longest single story I have is James Clavell's book Shogun which is 54 hours.
The longest title I've finished is Executive Orders by Tom Clancy, that's 51 hours.
Saving on electricity, my TV's never on.

Interestingly I am attempting Shogun at the minute, very much enjoying it so far but hadn't realised it was quite that long. Just checked, 48 hours left, that's 2 days
Thanks! Purchased.
Can I just say - this audio book is Blooming amazing - it's about the colonists set between Alien and Aliens - (Has Newts mom, dad and brother in) very well voiced acted and the story is holds up

I'm not a book worm by any means. I struggle to read ANY book which is one reason to have it read to me. Thought that might work in my favor but like anything new seemed good idea to start with but rapidly died a almost certain death. I suppose you could say.... A RIVER OF PAIN
Only reason I have these books was Amazon's generosity to a free Audible trial........

Just bought it, been really missing having an audiobook since I finished Stephen King's IT, which I would recommend if you have a spare 40+ hours!

I'd also recommend Stephen Kings The Stand which is 48 hours.
Audible great for long journeys on Ship/plane,just put the head phones on.
I have listened too 60% of my downloads.
Any suggestions on sci-fi / apocalyptic series? I've read/listened to the complete Extinction Cycle (Nicholas Sansbury Smith) Mountain Man (Keith C. Blackmore) and The Breakers (Edward W. Robertson)... all pretty lengthy collections and would be interested in any similar suggestions? I do like to get a decent bang for my buck with Audible! I can certainly recommend Extinction Cycle if anyone likes zombie / apocalyptic tales...it has a very good narrator as well in Bronson Pinchot.

You listen to what you want to, and I'll do what I want. It was an example based on something I'm interested in. Steven Fry reading Sherlock Holmes, at a vastly inflated price doesn't do anything for me.
