Publisher's Summary

Hardly anyone ever leaves Des Moines, Iowa. But Bill Bryson did, and after 10 years in England he decided to go home, to a foreign country. In an ageing Chevrolet Chevette, he drove nearly 14,000 miles through 38 states to compile this hilarious and perceptive state-of-the-nation report on small-town America. From the Deep South to the Wild West, from Elvis' birthplace through to Custer's Last Stand, Bryson visits places he renamed Dullard, Coma, and Doldrum (so the residents don't sue or come after him with baseball bats). But his hopes of finding the American dream end in a nightmare of greed, ignorance, and pollution. This is a wickedly witty and savagely funny assessment of a country lost to itself, and to him.

Bill Bryson is always worth a listen, at this price it's cheaper than a bag of fried potatoes (at least at the last chip shop I went into in Cornwall)

Can't beat a good Bill Bryson book, only recently enjoyed my way through "A Walk In the Woods" and was contemplating "Notes from a big country" but I'll take this one first.

Thanks OP.

Once you pay, the audio book is linked to your Amazon account so the book is streamed to the Echo via WiFi.

Once you have started it in the app once so it knows what you want it's easy to just say alexia play my audio book... Play stop pause works volume too. Or can say alexia play lost continent
Be careful with this & check what you are charged!
They took £19.69 from my card although the cart stated £1.99........It took a while to get it refunded to my card as they kept trying to get me to accept a credit note....REFUSE POINT BLANK if they try with you & tell them it's not open to discussion & you want the money placed back on the card you paid with.

FWIW I have been an audible subscriber for five years. Over that time I have had to talk to customer services many times. In my experience they are, always helpful, professional and will do everything they can to make you happy. It's one of the few places I shop where I know I don't have to worry.
I'm sorry you had a bad experience but mine has been completely the opposite.

I never said there was a problem with customer services staff.
Just out of interest why have you had to speak to customer services so many times about issues?
Thanks

Well that's good to hear. Your post gave the impression you had a job to get the outcome you wanted. Apologies.

I've mostly contacted support about refunds for books I didn't like. I have bought about seven books a month (on average) and inevitably there are some that subjectively aren't good. Once you have returned 3? 5? books using the automated system you have to contact them directly.

I try now to make better choices and have only returned one book this year (I think)
