It would depend on your definition of 'audiophile', but I disagree. I got my Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro 250ohm for about this price with an ebay offer at the time and they are well regarded. I'm very happy with them.
If you're talking planar magnetic phones though, then yes, they're expensive
This particular manufacturer's headphones are over-priced in the UK (as most things I guess) - these are $70 (~£55) on Amazon US for example.

"Audiophile" is pretty meaningless as a subjective term. The DT990 Pro are however used by audio engineers the world over for reference work (including yours truly!) Currently £105 from various outlets, but the analytical response is not for all - buying headphones over the net without auditioning is a crap shoot tbh and shouldn't be encouraged. I would definitely pick the Beyers (770/880/990) over these which are lower tier.
