I am guessing this won't suit everyone but if you are after a cruise in the school time then I've put together this trip which is from 7th-14th August which I think is good value will a good Med itinerary too.

First you'll catch the Eurostar to Marseille. This is cheaper than flying, you can take luggage, eat/drink and have reserved seats. It is longer than a flight though. If you have Clubcard or Avios then you could look at paying for the Eurostar with vouchers to reduce the cost too so if you are known a budget this may really help. If you are not in London then ferry, region flights etc may be an option or a pre London break. With cheap rail fare and potential Virgin sale fares it may be cheaper to go to and from Euston and pick up the Eurostar.

Once in Marseille you will catch a taxi to the port or organise a shuttle (own cost) and the MSC cruise departs at 6pm. As you are booking your own trip to get to Marseille you could look at flying or even arriving a couple of days earlier if you wanted a pre or post cruise break.

The cruise is a Med cruise and the cabin is with 4 sharing. It's quite unusual to see cabins of 4 at this price especially In August. I'm not sure if Cruise Nation have a price error as the cruise shows up significantly more at £649 then reduced to £444pp once I'd clicked through which is a bit odd. Let me go as far as selecting cabin, entering fake passenger names and payment screen etc so should be OK.

After the cruise you'll catch the Eurostar back from Marseille to London.

Details:

Eurostar for 4 £474 (less with Clubcard)

Cruise bookable at Cruise Nation £1776

Total per person £562.50

Nope, price for the cruise isn't valid for 4 adults sharing a cabin, only comes up at that price for 2A and 2C. If you aren't stuck to school holiday dates much better deals I'd guess.

I have been on this ship and in this cabin grade. It was fine for me on my own, two people would require some negotiation, but 4 will be a serious challenge.

It's a smaller, Italian ship. Many nationalities, English language is normally third or fourth in the announcements and the spoken languages. I thought the food is ok, but I hear complaints, and meal hours are limited. You're expected to pay for water, which seriously annoys me. An all-inclusive drinks package at €24 (from memory), including tea, coffee and water as well as alcohol would be advisable.

It's certainly not for the 'Out' voters. It'll be fun if you go knowing what to expect however.
