Great amp. Has a few annoying quirks such as the home screen coming up whenever you turn it on and mine has a high pitched sound when switched off. Both apparently normal according to Sevenoaks. Great sound though so worth it.

Would this be better than a Sonos 5.1 setup?
Or an Onkyo

That doesn't happen on mine occasional it loses hdmi input and requires hard reset but has done that twice in 3 years.

Whattttt? Lol. YES AN AVR WOULD BE BETTER THEN A SONOS SOUNDBAR WITH 2 SMALL SPEAKERS AND A SUB. If you have that much to spend might as well go for a full Atmos set up that beats the Sonos by miles don't forget more features and HDMI INPUTS as well as 4k. Tbh no point in going on. I actually used to have a Sonos soundbar and WOW as soon as I heard the sound I was looking for the receipt as I wanted my money back crazy amount of money for just the soundbar on its own.

Does it not go to home every time you turn it on? That annoys me as I use a harmony remote to start everything up then have to get rid of the damn home screen!

The high pitched noise is fine and my Mrs can't even hear it

i use the free sat built in to my tv, the avr plays the sound from the tv. as soon as i turn tv on.
if i turn to hdmi av1, it has my shield tv / xbmc not the sony menu

Non of these complaints sound like a recommendation for this amp
Had my Onkyo 508 for years never let me down

You need to return the amp, clearly a fault with it. Mine doesn't do any of that, and I also use harmony remote.

The only annoying thing about the amp is the menu system is slow at times. Also doesn't work well with harmony remote if you have HDMI control enabled on both TV and AVR to enable ARC. I wish there was a separate menu line where you can turn ARC on without having HDMI control on. When I turn on TV (sky q goes through AVR) harmony sets the input to satellite, however, a second later , Sony AVR switches the input to TV arc input as it gets a signal from the TV!! Really bloody annoying!!!
Really good AVR besides some quirks mentioned above. I got mine as ex-display from seven oaks for £379 and I am very happy with it.

Replaced my denon x3300, and Yamaha 673. Very similar sound to denon, but a bit more impact to lower end. Sony absolutely wipes the floor with 673, which sounds very thin and harsh.

I have an E7 and that has an option to turn off ARC So should check your TV and see if it allows the same thing.
Turning off arc would mean having to connect everything to the amp or using optical cables though wouldn't it?

I feel like there is a setting I'm missing that means the home screen comes on when first turning the amp on. Although I read complaints of Sony amps doing that

maybe its the order things are turned on?
i just switch tv on and the sony self powers on

if. your turning the sony on 1st then tv, maybe thats why its going to home
Anything in particular that makes it £80 better than the Denon 2400?

richersounds.com/den…tml
I'll try and tell harmony to delay turning on the amp by a few seconds to see if that works. It's not a major deal anyway.

if you have arc on just try switching tv on only and see if sony comes on by its self

Ahhhhhh I see. I don't know about Sony as I have a Pioneer vsx1131 but in my settings i can turn HDMI control off direct from avr so I'm guessing 🤔 it should be in your HDMI settings menu.

Slightly better sound quality and built in Chromecast audio. But Denon offers greater value for money. Personally, I'm not a big fan of denon sound signature.

"Testament to just how accomplished and entertaining we find this Sony is we didn’t find a genuine, worthwhile step-up in performance until we went beyond the £2000 mark. The Denon AVR-X6400H is one of the company’s top-ranking AV receivers this year, and it’s our top pick if you’re willing to spend some serious dosh on your system."

Surely arcam AVR390 is a better sounding avr than Denon
Awesome piece of kit. I use Airplay on it a lot (to play music from my iPhone wirelessly).
I still cant fathom why they called this the 1080 again..... i have a 1080 from last year(no Atmos 😣)

Panasonic UB900 Vs UB700 on what HiFi.
"On the £600 player, the picture just pops – the edges are that bit crisper, there’s a touch more subtlety that adds shine and depth to the picture, and there’s a proper sense of watching a superior picture format.

In contrast, the UB700 looks more like a good conventional Blu-ray player, not a 4K one."

Well it wouldn't have been able to have been used for the first hundreds of years unless you invented electricity back in the day!

Thanks man. I went for the pioneer vsx 932 and canton movie 75 speakers. Only annoying thing is they don't come with speaker wires that set me back another £100 I went for the Cambridge audio stuff. What do you think of this set up? It's very loud but I think I need to tinker with the settings as it's missing that soundstage that the sonos had. I'm sure this is capable of it but need to play around with it I guess.

£100 for speaker wire?

£100 for speaker wire?

Yea I needed 20metres and it was £3.19 per metre plus a 5 metre qed subwoofer cable. It's stall £800 cheaper than the sonos 5.1 I was looking at.

I bought the cheap Pioneer speaker package (earlier this year) and they had the wires included but kinda thinking I might upgrade to atmos. In terms of my channel volumes I have them all on 0 same for distance. Bass I have on -10 and sub -15 but the volume on the back of my sub is on full. I mostly use F.S.Surround 3.1 and when I watch a movie I switch to Dolby 5.1 but I do have my centre speaker on +1/2 sometimes. I have had a small issue where I can't have HDMI main & sub on at the same time and send an Xbox 4k single so I have to switch to main only
