Good price but you can get it in Asda for the same price...no waiting around.

No, I went to Asda this morning and they had signs up saying £40 minimum spend to get it for the £8 price plus they were limiting the copies to 2 per customer.

Not according to this deal: hotukdeals.com/ite…sda

I went in this morning to Telford Asda and bought one on its own with no problems. Lots of copies too

Still a good deal if you can wait for delivery, and isn't there quidco or topcashback for a couple of extra pennies off somewhere?

I pre-ordered this when it was £9.99 because I had a £10 amazon voucher to use, and I received it on the 24th April....think I will contact customer service and see if they refund me the difference now that its gone down to £8

Edit: received an email within 5mins and they said they will refund me the £1.99 difference

they have full page ads in the papers stating "no minimum spend,no vouchers,no gimmicks"-these signs dont appear in any asda-you must be dreaming.its morrisons who are doing a "spend 50 pounds deal"

Sainsburys had it this morning for £8.99.

No "rules" about having to spend any extra money or whatever.

You also get a £2 off any other DVD voucher as well whenb paying for it.

no need-since I work for asda, specifically on the music and video department,I know this is utter nonsense-the deal is nationwide and advertised as such.

No apology due to you from anyone here...it is well advertised, I saw it in the paper yesterday...no gimmicks, no vouchers, no minimum spend.

Your apology is due from the misinformed Asda staff member who told you otherwise, or put up something clearly contradicting their national ad campaign.

Yep £5 in morrisons, but must spend £50 and have a voucher from a newspaper!

What's the point? If it's not in RealD 3D then I can't see any reason to buy this. Especially on DVD, it's like getting Sky and watching it on your phone. No DVD should be over £5 and watching this film without high definition and 3D is just a waste of time.

so don't buy it then, you just enjoy waiting to spend a few grand on a new tv to watch it in a few months.

Not seen the film. Is it good or is it all hype?

i personally felt it was a good movie. But, it is a movie that was designed to be in 3D. It was all shot and some of the techniques in which they are done were actually invented by James Cameron as well.

If you get the chance, go to the IMAX to see it and throw on the glasses. Glasgow IMAX was £6.50 for Adults when I went to see it there.

Total Bargain!

visually, it's stunning, even in 2D. Can't commend it enough in that respect.

story-wise, well, it's a bit cliched and formulaic and Cameron doesn't exactly exude subtlety when it comes to subtext and allegory.

He says he first got the idea for the story 15 years ago. I wonder if that's when he first saw Disney's Pocahontas.....

What I'm trying to say is, it's a good, but not great film. Well worth a watch, just don't expect the plot to be as revolutionary as the visuals.

Because the 2 times in december that i seen Avatar at the glasgow imax, it cost £8.95 PER ticket each time, and feature films before Avatar, ie star trek, and beowulf also cost £8.95.

The film isn't worth watching without the special effects and hd quality.

My dad bought the DVD at £8 in ASDA. I'll probably watch that then decide whether I like it enough to go see extended edition in cinema over the summer and whether an inevitable extended Blu-ray is worth buying.

doesn't necessarily mean everyone paid that price though. maybe he had a voucher, or they had some offer on he took advantage of.

either way, i don't see why you care...

so don't buy it then!

not everyone has a bluray player and not everyone wants to buy a 3DTV, but maybe they do want to watch this film?

The film is no good without special effects, all i'm saying is it's not worth buying. If you missed it at the cinema then it's a shame. But what makes this a film worth paying money to see you wont get from a DVD. This was an amazing film all because of the special effects. Without those it's just Pocohontis with aliens. I'm not saying buy a blu ray or a 3DTV, I'd never say buy a 3DTV as they will always be a gimmicky joke though perhaps a fun one. This film however relies entirely on the awe factor of cinema 3D.

My opinion though. If you loved the film at the cinema and you want to own a DVD, then this is a good price for a newer than new film. Personally I wouldn't pay £5 for the blu ray/DVD. I saw this film twice at the cinema once in IMAX and the other one on a normal screen. The IMAX version wasn't even close to being as good as the normal screen, which blew me away.

The times Ive been to the Imax, its been £6.50 for us each.

Went to see Alice in Wonderland at the imax and also only paid £6.50. I dont know why i didnt pay £8.95 like the other poster on here, but thats for Imax to answer that and not me.

For that person earlier in the thread who said I was dreaming, here is the poster:

http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/7156/avataror.png

In the morning when I went, they hadn't blanked out the 'spend £40 or more' words. They probably blanked it out later in the day after I complained that they had taken out an ad in Sunday's paper and there was nothing mentioning £40 min spend.

Interestingly, I don't know if you can see it but in the small print of that poster it actually says:

"£40 spend does not include the normal DVD price of £15"

So I'm guessing Asda were originally going to use this as their marketing strategy and probably changed last minute to undercut Sainsburys.
