Got this from Zavvi b4 xmas for a bit less, works fine & still worth a stab at this price, more features than the free version. Would never pay the full price tho, would stick to free.

Posted here ]http//ww…ser for £5.99. Some interesting opinions.....plus it got some good heat!

a) AVG has an absolutely terrible detection rate
b) Extremely resource hogging

You're better off without it. Causes more trouble than it solves.

Detection rates suck with AVG. Internet security suites are always bloated and overkill in my opinion although this is nowhere near as crap as the Norton or McAfee suites. NOD32 suite is great although detection rates for malware are a bit poor at the moment.

Completely agree, AVG used to be good but it has gone down hill

got this as previous poster said fromm zavvi before xmas for £1.99

never had any problems with it, previously had free version.

folks tend to stick with the same antivirus until they hit a problem, then they switch to another.

can't follow everyones recomendation at the end of the day, stick with what you know.

this has been posted two weeks ago, selling for £2.00

sorry, selling for £1.99

Never had a problem with AVG - not a resource hog like Norton. Always find that it works in the background without any disruption. Hot from me.

Used to use AVG, but since taking over and incorporating Ewido into a single prog I find Avira better.

What's wrong with Windows Security Essentials?

What's wrong with Windows Security Essentials?

Security essentials gets largely favourable press - i read somewhere that it got a black mark for not doing "heuristics" but cant find the reference now. Anyone know if it actually does heuristics or not ?

Cold... get wse instead .... don't waste money

Cold. As I posted on the last thread, free AV does everything this can.

I think ]avast is much better, and free. AVG used to be good, but has become a resource hog in the last few versions. (I've used both the free and paid versions, and have noticed computers speeding up when I removed them and replaced them with either avast or Comodo's solutions).

Alternatively, the MS Security Essentials above has good reviews, and ]Comodo offer a free ]well reviewed product including Anti-virus and a Firewall.

The names are links to the free downloads.

Free AV, much better than AVG and much easier to use on a day to day basis.

thats the problem with poor detection. you think its all working fine until you put new AV software on and it finds loads of things AVG happily let through :w00t:

agree i use avast free antivirus and pctools free firewall....work fine on my 3 pc's win7 64bit, win7 32bit, win xp (32bit)..seems fine, non are perfect though

The windows 7 virus software for is brilliant, its clean installation and detection rate is brilliant too.

No more buying virus software for me

I'd never buy AVG as they've gone from being a light brilliant application, to a memory hungry not so efficient load of rubbish.

I've lost count of the amount of times that AVG as allowed virus to reap havoc on my computer, god damn it...:x

Avast is a nightmare too....

Use the Windows 7 Free virus software and stick with the windows 7 firewall... They both work and have been developed for the system they run on and are the least resource hungry.

Third party software in this case is pointless in my opinion..

Allot of people don't even realise you can get free Microsoft virus software...lol :whistling:

Most of us use routers now days, which is a secondary firewall too.... So why oh why would you want to dump a third party firewall on Windows 7, what can a third party firewall do that the Windows one cant?

So silly

For all those of you who think this is a deal and are slagging off the McAfee and Nortons of this world, you might want to click on the following link and read their latest summary report from 2009..... av-comparatives.org/ either that or go and search on youtube for AV comparatives 2009.

I can't make you but trust me it'd be worth your while the last thing you want is a machine with AV that doesn't detect a threat which then trashes all your personal data ;-)

Check the results for Microsoft's Detection and Removal

It Rated GOOD & GOOD only two other companies did too... thats on your comparatives website. For free you cant knock it!:whistling::thumbsup:

Microsoft, eScan & Symantec are the only ones that rated Good & Good.

Not voting, but if you bank with Barclays, you can get the 3 user licence for Kaspersky Internet Security for free!

went to avg 9 and it totally trashed my pc. took a while to sort out. still using avg 8.5, but will need to switch soon. not sure what too though yet!

if your not willing to spend any money then use AVG or Avast. IF your thinking about spending money get ESET or Kaspersky is probably your best bet

LOL at your nonsense. There is no such thing as Windows 7 Free virus software

Microsoft do offer free security essentials :whistling:

Kaspersky is much better than that

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone got theirs yet? I got mine from the Hut last week, it's the old 8.5 version and after installing it the License expires next month on 22/02/10!

How is a 1 year license only giving me a month?!

I upgraded to AVG v9 as I kept getting the annoying pop up and still the same thing.

Anyone else with this problem? I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium.

Thanks,
Banzai.

looks like you have not entered the licence properly so it thinks you are on a 30 days trial. go to help, activate / enter licence and try again

You need to get the licence key first before installing by going to the AVG website & entering the key that came with the product, this is NOT the licence key, & you will be given the licence key to input.

AuctionSniper, csiman - Thanks... did not realise you had to register first!

All sorted now

Doh! ... what happened to the good old days when software only needed a CD key and easy to install without a user guide?!.. ;-)
