Avid Media Composer First - FREE

I saw this in a computer mag and thought it might be good for someone. Its apparently an industry - level video editing suite and 95% of main stream movies such as Baby Driver and The Martian used the full version of this software.

This is the free version so it has some restrictions like editing is limited to four video tracks and eight audio tracks and output is capped at 1080p not 4K but the main program sells for £1,100 and this is FREE

You do have to register with email etc before you can use it

Thanks
Thanks indeed! Nothing beats FREE!!!
Worth mentioning that Davinci resolve is also free, with limitations that wouldn't after most casual editors. Awesome video editor
Decent program.
This was industry standard but in the last few years most places have moved over to Adobe premiere pro.
Not sure why as they're both very similar.
I'm an Avid Sibelius user. Very expensive software but industry standard . They give HUGE educational discounts on SIBELIUS for school age pupils , students , teachers and Lecturers and I wonder if there is a similar arrangement for those who need this as part of a course of study.
Thanks, looks interesting.
If you're reading this and you're into video editing, its worth noting that Vegas Pro full version is on the humble bundle at the moment for only £15 humblebundle.com/sof…dom (normally about 10 times that) and that can do 4K video and upscaling.

Personally I am happy with the 1080p limit though, because then if you shoot with a 4K camera (which is the max most of us have anyway) you basically have an image that is 4x 1080 so you can zoom in so the things in shot are up to 4x bigger and pan around and stuff, and still output a full HD 1080p video at the end.
I’ve been using Media composer every day for the last 6 months and never really gone above 4 video tracks for what I do and if you do I’m assuming mixdowns May help. Looks very interesting I’ll be checking out for home, everywhere is using either this or Premiere so great to learn both.

Its not the full version.... its the Vegas Pro Edit, meaning there are some minor limitations.
Fantastic software - used it for years. Be mindful that it is pretty resource hungry.
Thats a biggie 2.1Gb, good job not on dial up any more.
So limited its pointless really. If you want a real good free editor (with better colour correction) go for Davinci Resolve. I use Premiere Pro myself but that costs!
What's the minimum spec needed to run this?

So Vegas pro is much better than avid?

Do you know if you can use the Vegas Pro Edit keys on more than one device, or is at a 1 key 1 device job?

You should try gaming these days, updates being nearly 100GB, take over a month to get for me on this terrible internet
Don't know whether to go with this, Davinci Resolve (which I've briefly tested recently) or VEGAS in the Humble Bundle!
yup put this up months ago there is also a link to pro tools/first the industry standard music production suite
