Lame! you can download Avira free on filehippo.com or download.com and use it for 12 months and then swap to another one like AVG or Avast. Why pay for one you can run these 3 simultaneously no probs!

If you pay for antivirus software your a MUG!

Haven't got any idea why this has got so cold.
Sounds alright to me.

The free version differs from the paid (email protection, etc) so not like for like.

Not if you install MailWasher 6.52 that is free too and available on filehippo.

Utter nonsense, ignore this inept 'mightykaboosh'.

If you use antivirus software you're a MUG!

fixed.

antivirus and firewall software is useless

just puts a strain on resources

even if you do have a real threat such as a worm, then the antivirus wont help anyways

its a ******** market where the viruses are made and distributed by the antivirus companies so they stay in business

if you dont visit dodgy sites on the internet, youre not going to have problems, just do a windows update every so often and you'll be fine

I use and am happy with the free version but this is a good price for the premium version

Not if you run a selection pick any 3 from filehippo and you are covered!

I'm not quite sure what you're suggesting here but running 2 let alone 3 antivirus programs simultaneously is generally considered a bad idea. Apart from it being an unnecessary and total resource hog you'll likely see program conflicts and false virus alerts.

Quite possibly the most clueless person on here. I could dignify your ignorance with a response but you're probably just trolling anyway...

What if you need an AV solution for a business PC? You can't use these free ones for anything other than personal use!

antivirus and firewall software is useless

I've never bought any software since 1994 and that is when I didn't know better.

I'm not going to incriminate myself on this site and I am not inept. Most people know someone that has a license for xyz. To date the only piece of software that i've encountered that is not distributable is Rosetta Stone. Software will allow a specified amount of registrations. The schools edition of XP allowed 3000 registrations.

What has that to do with this deal?

(genuine question - not trying to start a flame war, I've lost you a little there ... )

Not really a valid comment if you're just talking about taking something without paying for it as you should. You could apply that rationale to pretty much any deal on the site as you could just steal anything you wanted rather than paying.

I've recently taken Avira off my laptop because I was sick of the constant spamming from Avira telling that my pc was at risk if I didn't upgrade. It clearly isn't and that was the primary reason for me posting under the original thread.

It's not stealing, you are allowed to register more than one copy, it is pretty much a given that you will have more than one pc in your household, and by this very assumption it allows you to register the software.

The deal is still not a "deal" just trying to save some money for anyone that feels that it is necessary to buy software such as this!

get some friends, you are allowed to register more than one copy

Yeah .... but like most things it's a single-user licence agreement, so technically it's illegal, and ultimately stealing.

Not that you're likely to have a police team break your door down and arrest you.

You're breaking the terms of the software license by installing somebody else's copy of software, even if it allows multiple installations per household. Just because it allows you to install and register, it doesn't mean you're within the terms of the license.

lol at people who visit dodgy websites and get infected

ive not had to format since i got it 3 years ago (win xp pro)

never had antivirus installed

Yet you claim to be an expert on the subject. Interesting .

Sharpnel, you've been 'pwned'.

sorry for the delayed reply, i was out having a social life

whether or not you take my advice is up to you, maybe you have urges to execute malicious software and need such a program to stop you doing it

i agree businesses need antivirus software (with expensive licences) because alot of idiots work with computers who bring in their usb drives full of warez, open random spam mail with virus attachments or just visit random websites when they should be working

if you stay smart on the internet, you dont need an antivirus... or a firewall..

or any 'speed optimisation' software

keep it simple

Ahh hanging around street corners is considered a social life these days?

Please god by firewall you are only talking about software and not hardware. If you're sat on any network without any form of firewall then you're really stupid!

Agree with you on software optimisation but seeing as you're an expert on this what do you think of hardware optimisations?

On the subject of antiviruses, I can only assume you are talking about your own circumstances, that you're on a desktop/laptop that only ever resides on your own personal network and you never take an unprotected laptop onto any other network or allow anybody onto your network. The only way your situation can ever work in the slightest is if you keep your machine contained in its own network. The fact that you have to be so careful and always be mindful of doing anything "noobish" like visiting a suspect website is pretty prohibitive from an end-user point of view and surely for the sake of installing a free A/V solution would give you the peace of mind regardless of how careful you are? If you're really worried about RAM consumption then I suggest you ditch your 3 year old machine and enter the modern age of 4GB+ of RAM. I can assure you even on machines with less than 1GB the RAM utilisation is so minimal as to not be worth worrying about.

Your advice on antiviruses is just plain irresponsible and you should really keep it to yourself, hopefully nobody impressionable is heeding it.

i take my netbook many places, using several different networks

not everyone pays the geek tax of upgrading their pc every time some new technology comes out

i would have nothing against antivirus software, if it werent for the fact theyre ineffective when a real threat is present. as a non business user, once you have a worm on your pc, no antivirus will remove it easily, it is quicker to format than keep combing through the registry for bits the worm left

my pc may be using old technology, but its still faster than 99% of those i encounter, simply because they have so much useless software in startup (such as AV) lagging their computers

can you tell me where a regular computer user may be vulnerable to such viruses, which makes it cost & time effective to slow down their computers in order to reap the benefits of this 'protection'?

btw my 3 year old pc has 4gb ram ;-)
