It seems that Aviva are offering this to exisiting customers, looks like you have to call to get this though:

"As a valued customer we’re delighted to offer you our standard annual European travel insurance absolutely free for the first year. You can upgrade your policy at an additional cost to include worldwide cover, add baggage cover, winter sports, business cover and more. Aviva reserves the right to amend or withdraw this offer at any time. Standard underwriting criteria and terms and conditions apply.*"

I received this a few weeks ago but I'm not actually a customer. Do they ask for a policy number when you call to take it up?

You probably have a policy underwritten by Aviva in that case

Strange, try give them a call maybe? Can't really see anywhere where it says you have to have a certain policy to get it

I received an email for this about a month ago - I think it's a great deal! I called the phone number and spoke to a friendly advisor who explained the in's and out's very thoroughly. You can also add friends and family members to your policy for free too.

This is my first year of car insurance with Aviva so I'm not sure if being a fairly new customer has anything to do with it, but hopefully all customers can take advantage of this!

I don't think there are any hidden nasties, at least I hope not! The excess is £50 and they'll send a renewal quote in a year's time so you have the option of cancelling the policy before charging for another year.

I added baggage, winter sports (going on my first ski trip next year!) and travel disruption and it came to £15 altogether. I'm not too clued up with insurance but it seemed like a good deal compared to previous policies I have taken out!

already have worldwide travel insurance with them or I'd jump at this
cheapest out there and seem to be a good one (fingers crossed)

I am a recent Aviva Car insurance customer and received notification of this offer too. Only thing I currently have family annual travel insurance which expires March 18! I was thinking of holding off on this one and hope I can claim it early 18. Does anyone know if there is an expiry on the offer? Can it be taken out anytime during your first year of car insurance cover?

Fine print:
3. Free cover is for Year 1 only. Costs apply for Year 2 cover onwards, which you will be invited to.

I'll contact them cheers

Brilliant deal, no catch, simply call to get it, as long as you are an existing customer!

I received this offer by email also, but don't think I'm a current customer (but had home/contents insurance with them last year).

I was considering this, however we already have an annual European travel insurance policy with another company until May 2018, and have read that whilst allowed, it can cause problems having 2 policies.

We are going to the US in February, and would be interested to know the cost to upgrade this free cover to worldwide, as I would consider cancelling my current policy and taking this out if the extra cost wasn't too much - but I did a separate new policy quote with them and the cost for a worldwide cover was coming in around £90.

My car cover is with Aviva. Just rang and got this coverage free for my wife and me, although I noticed that certain things aren't covered under the free policy, such as airline failure and lost baggage. My adviser wanted extra money for those. Still, free is good. Thanks, OP.

Hmm, does this include workers? My company has Aviva lifestyle with them..

Sorted many thanks for this,I go away in a couple of weeks and was ready to buy some.Said 20% off on my aviva account but no hassle when i rang.

On a side note I just used the Aviva Drive app to apparently get me a cheaper insurance quote.. what a joke.. put my insurance quote up by over £100 ..also increased the cost of the protected no claims!

I used that when first joining aviva, saved me around £400 on my car insurance

Great post OP thanks!

Called this morning and just asked about the free annual travel insurance offer, she said I was eligible and took me through the quote process, confirming free at the end, I said I wanted Worldwide excluding America - this was an additional £13ish for me and my partner. Then another £3.50 to include lost/stolen baggage. All in it was £17 for yearly travel insurance starting 30 days from today (which is a week before my current plan expires) - the furthest in advance you can purchase it.

Just got it. Had to pay extra for baggage and disruption but bargain just the same.

I had no luck! I'm an existing customer. Winter sports extra he said it'd be £54! Said there was no such thing as 'free' annual travel insurance :((((

Could someone give me the aviva phone number you called for the free insurance?

Many thanks

found number, i just clicked on deal link...........it's been a long day

Thanks op. Just got my cover for 1 year for the family. extras were baggage £4.28 and travel disruption £20.53.

Overall very happy, needed to renew and you just saved me £65.22 off the regular price. Thanks

They have been the cheapest for me now for 2 years by a long way, always helpful on the phone too!

Has anyone found out whether this offer is valid for Pension polices?

Great, just bought insurance two days ago... Might see if I can cancel...
Edited by: "feelingsleepy123" 14th Nov

Take care to mark it in your calender though ; "Free for first year." perhaps means an automatic renewal at a cost.

Is it worth getting this if I have an existing worldwide policy with another insurer currently?

The in the vent of a claim, I could go with whichever was the better option, or would it simply mean that each insurer would say it was the other's to resolve?
thanks

I took up this offer when we renewed our house and contents insurance. Took a bit of time go through the set-up with an + £30 for winter sports. But well worth it.
