good price

Good price as long as they don't use it as a loss leader in order to 'advise' of other 'defects' in order to get you to part with more cash!

link just takes u to website. can't find this deal on there

loads of deals in this size, hardly ever any in 195/50R16, boo! heat though.

Just checked prices for my car.
£44 for Avon £57 for Michelin.
Sorry, there's no contest.
From experience, Michelin last me twice as long as Avon.

Decent price for a low end tyre. My money is on Goodyear from now on though - the main things keeping you on the road after all.

£86.99 each for my car, Vauxhall Vectra

Are Avon any good?

Good price,

I used to think they were, but after twice fitting them to our Galaxy I won't be bitten a 3rd time.
They wore down very quickly (yes, I know the Galaxy eats tyres!).

I got 18" Avon ZZ5 on mine and not had any issues. Done 20K on them and still good thread left.

So by that analogy any tyre will be crap on your Galaxy.

Nothing wrong with Avon tyres, depends on how you drive.

Fitted 4 x ZZ5 last week from the Amazon deal, had them before, fine tyres & wear well if you look after them by driving sensibly.

"low end tyre" lol mate, if you don't know what you are talking about, then you really shouldn't make such comments.

How many miles did they last?

Yes

Most informative - thanks X)

Last set lasted for 17000 odd miles, sold the car & there was still plenty of tread left.

I've had 2 sets & the last set lasted 17000 plus miles before selling the car with plenty of life left in them, I don't drive like an idiot though so tyres will last as long as your drive sensibly.

Michelins lasted twice as long as Avon and aren't twice the price. Nothing to do with how I drive.

I am after tyres and tried the cartyres.com offer but halfords refused to fulfil the order. That offer is just a waste of time. Just booked this one now, hopefully halfords will honour it.

Low end is harsh, but they are mid range at best.

Not in the same league as Pirelli, Goodyear or Dunlop.

For the sake of 80-100 quid extra for all 4 (when they're on offer) every 15k miles, it's an absolute no brainer to get the best of the best as far as I'm concerned.

best price on internet at the moment and good tyres. Nothing wrong with Avon, I have been using them for years.

What mileages then ?

Seem to be some good prices on the Halfords site unusually... Went for Rainsport 3's @ £46.99 which seems pretty cheap compared to other online tyre sites.

17k with Michelin and only 9k on Avon (in about 14 months too!).

Must be some intense driving you do

I have 4 ZV5's on my car. Done 25,000 mile son them now. Front 2 will need replaced in about 5000 miles. Back two in about 10000.

No idea why you got so little. I drive 500 miles a week on the motorway. Great tyres. Excellent in the wet as well.

Recommended.

As stated previously, you must be intense in your driving then for that discrepancy.

This is a slightly strange thread. One of you might be driving a Skoda Citigo and the other a Toureg. One dropping kids off at school a mile away, one commuting a fair whack through country roads then dropping off half a rugby team at the club. Your mileage may vary, and needn't reflect your driving style.

Avon are fine, but you pay more, you get more miles. That plateaus after a point. So you make a value judgement. Replacing your car in a year? Then maybe the Avons are the way to go. Trying to run it into the ground? Shop around.

To be fair the service and time spent fitting your tyres at halfords is worth the extra couple of quid.

Nothing of the sort regarding cars, mine is a 2007 Mondeo ST220, I just drive it normally around town, brake normally, basically drive it responsibly & not like an idiot.

That's for 215/50/17 , I think there are different sizes for different models.

about time it's not one of those f1 centres which are miles away.

A branded 16" tyre fitted for £44 and people are complaining. Only on HUKD! X)

Not used Avon for a good few years. Never seem to buy the same tyre twice as always find something I don't like. My last set (based on people's thoughts) were rainsport 3's. Seem pretty good in the rain and were a good price. Bad points the tyre movement is high (guessing due to soft sidewalls) but the main point is the horrible noise and feedback on turn in on dry roads. So on that note my search continues...
