This post isn't so much about this particular product (although it is a good price - Was £25) but more to raise awareness about this silent killer and why EVERYONE with Gas boilers in their home should have a 'working' Carbon Monoxide alarm.

Apparently, according to the below info (follow link below), these alarms are being reduced this month in most stores to around £15.
Although if any of you know of/see a good deal then please post it here so it may encourage people to go out and buy one.

So everyone PLEASE get yourselves one and make sure you keep your gas boilers, chimneys etc. regularly serviced.

Carbon Monoxide: The silent Killer - woman's story on This Morning plus info about the Alarms

Carbon Monoxide 'Be Alarmed' Campaign

We have this one (or one very similar) which was posted as a great deal on here last year and it's really good as it runs off Mains or Battery - and the battery acts as a backup should the power fail:

I noticed earlier while at my local Lloyds Pharmacy that they have an offer on when you buy a Carbon Monoxide AND Smoke Alarm together, but I can't find info on their website, so it would be worth checking there should you need to buy both!

If it saves lives, isn't it worth it? Yes IMO anyway.

Carbon Monoxide is a highly poisonous gas that has no colour, taste or smell. Fuel burning appliances such as stoves, fires, boilers and water heaters can produce Carbon Monoxide if they are incorrectly fitted, badly repaired or poorly maintained or if flues, chimneys or vents are blocked.

Gas, oil and solid fuels such as coal, coke and wood can all produce Carbon Monoxide.

Each year, there are around 20 deaths from Carbon Monoxide poisoning* and many more people suffer health problems due to Carbon Monoxide exposure.

Some 20 million households in the UK don’t have their appliances checked regularly enough or have an audible Carbon Monoxide alarm – leaving them under-protected and at risk of Carbon Monoxide poisoning.

The vote doesn't bother me at all.
If people can get these Free from EDF then fab - can just anyone get them or do you have to be a customer? If so then it's a great deal for those who can, but anyone who can't will be looking for a good deal. Please share if you have any info

Just the kind of rudeness i've come to expect on this site, but there you go.... Stay safe buddy!

I bought one to take on holiday with me, there have been a spate of deaths in european apartments from faulty water heaters. But recently bought a calor gas fire as a back up during power cuts, so have installed it in that room.

I really should have invested in one of these

Hot from me! I have a 2 year old at home so ANY money saving deals on safety equipment for the home gets a hot vote from me. I think this is a good price!! Why do people have to post negative comments about something that is a serious issue and I am grateful this lady has posted this! Thanks OP :-)

Sanctimonious? Sorry but I don't understand how? I wasn't trying to belittle anyone, just as I don't think the whole campaign is. I'm really confused by that comment.

I think certain people on here just have a habit of rubbing people up the wrong way. May have been hotter from someone else .... shame really as is a good deal!

Says it all really. Thanks for your comment!

I've posted this on another forum I use often and got a completely different (positive) reception, which says a lot.

I was actually saying its a good deal and that I voted hot ..... but that you had rubbed people up the wrong way ... mostly by jumping down their throats when passing comment. People critisise on here ... its what happens. Not everyone thinks everything is great. Just take it with a pinch of salt and move on rather than turning it into a personal campaign.

This is why I hate the typed word sometimes, it often doesn't come across properly. I was trying to say that you make a good point about the voting system on this site.

I'm not sure who's throats I have jumped down, but when people post unnecessary comments I think they should expect a response - you are right about the criticizing lol.

I honestly don't see why the voting system on this site often has to be a popularity contest, but i'd far rather know that people found something helpful rather than getting hot votes but no one actually benefiting from it just because the 'face fits' so to speak. I'll be stepping back from now on anyway, will continue to benefit from the posts made but doubt i'll contribute so much any more as it just so often doesn't feel appreciated. But not to worry, there's a bit more to life than HUKD lol

To the remedials posting that this site is for deals, not a lecture. I see plenty of information in the OP's post that discusses value for money of said purchases and upcoming price reductions. If you don't like it don't post.....

Your use of the word remedials is offensive and makes me wonder as to YOUR intelligence.

If you dont like the post you vote neg and say why. That's what I and others have done.

The original post was poorly researched and as a 'deal' is irrelevant. If people are going to preach they could at least make the effort to understand the issue.

Welcome

these are worth every penny if it saves lifes, some things you cant be tight and moan about! i paid over 30.00 for mine and give me and my family piece of mind. I suppose it depends what you consider your family to be worth!!

Is this the butt plug thread?

Voted hot. Its a really good deal, these can be very expensive. My brother died from carbon monoxide poisoning from a Calor Gas heater so I really know the value of one of these. If you don't want a good deal on a piece of equipment that could save your life then just go away but don't vote it as cold

About 4 times more people die doing DIY in the UK. 50 people a year die from falling off a ladders alone... You're probably more likely to die falling off a ladder while fitting this than have your life saved by it.

I have the alarm in this post, Can not really comment on how well it works however, one of those things you do not know until the worst time possible.. lol.

20 Deaths a year....so even if that means 20 individual households lose one person, it's less than a 1 in a million chance of being affected. Cold as it's branded as a lecture not a deal.

Is it true EDF give these for free?

Doesn't your local fire service hand these out?

I'm with EDF. How do I get a free detector? I can't find any mention of it on their website.
