Great value but be warned whilst the Main Street station is fine as a cheap hotel but it is no where near the strip and is not in an area that you would go to for any other reason than staying there. I would suggest still booking this but additionally booking your nites in Vegas at a strip hotel Excalibur is cheap and good location and even doing it this way it's still great value.

Travel Bird are very good, i am sure they would exchange that particular element if you were not happy with it - they will also consider letting you pay in installments too. Hope this helps x

its only for 7 nights - you need at least 14 nights to do LA and Vegas properly. Its also quite a drive between the 2 points.

LA can be done in 2 days, Hollywood is a dump and can see that in a few hours. The drive from LA to Vegas is around 4 hours so not that long at all.

If anyone is thinking of doing a West Coast trip. Do research and book everything yourself.

14 nights to do LA and Vegas alone is too much in my opinion. Vegas to LA is one day (amazing) driving.

doing this 3 weeks in June/July also taking in San Francisco, can't find decent flight prices at the moment though

Remember to add baggage ! as its extra

SunshineStacey - thanks from everyone in the HUKD community for all these posts you make.

I'm sure you get a lot more people asking for your help on specific requests for their own personal holidays instead of people saying thank you, so here you are.

Echoing the above comment - always interesting to see what is on offer. Thanks Stacy!

Direct, not open jaw flights. Cold. ;o

Thank You Stacey for this as an idea for us. As a family we are planning a trip to include Las Vegas for a very special birthday. Hoping to fly from Glasgow but if the price is right..........Heat

I;ve been called worse

Thank you everyone it means a lot, as long as someone takes advantage.

I did look into DIYing this one, on a good day you could probably grab some flights for around £300 however I thought this was a cracking price with the hassle taken out, maybe for a first time road tripper? I'm awful tempted myself

Looks awesome!

This is almost what I am looking for but would prefer San Francisco to Las Vegas, anyone know of a good site to plan a 7 - 10 day west coast trip please?

Amen to that. Did the three last year and well worth it

Very tempted by this....

Another great deal. You are a legend!

Six Flags Magic Mountain is EXCELLENT.
It was Wally World in the movie National Lampoons Vacation starring Chevy Chase.
Valencia is also a great town with plenty of eateries, shopping and movie theaters.

Your crazy, I could do 14 days in Vegas alone. But I don't think my body could handle it!!! Gamble, eat, pool, gamble, eat, out , gamble x 12 times. Easy

It's not that far. I drove from LA to Vegas and then back to LA in one day just to watch a UFC event. Obviously there and back in one day isn't something that most would do, but I wouldn't consider it a big drive. I think it took me 4-5 hours each way. I do agree that 7 nights isn't long enough to get the most out of both places though, especially for someone that's never been before.

Its amazing if you dont take the interstate and drive though the Mojahe desert. I have just come back and also did San Fransisco which was the highlight of the trip. Hollywood is indeed a dive. If you are travelling that far you need more than 7 nights. Vegas is fine for 3 nights but why not then see the grand canyon so that takes another night etc.

Same here, I'm going for 10 days next year. I've been a few times but only ever for a few days and it's never enough time and I don't even gamble.

Also has the roller coaster from True Romance it's great

Going to do the Golden Triangle road trip from San Francisco ,LA then finish in Vegas next year for honeymoon , never done anything like it before , would you guys recommend getting flights now or wait till closer the event. ?
Keep hearing LA is a huge disappointment , might have to make some adjustments.
Defo going to Wally World thanks for heads up on that , loved that film. Hope it's not closed when we arrive !

Lots of "is 7 days long enough / short enough". You don't have to book the exact dates or even hotels listed in the example they've built for you. Add on more days and downgrade hotels seems a like a sensible option if you want 10 - 14 days around same price. Come to think of it just swap the hotels for 2 weeks in a mini van...job done on a HUKD budget.

Heat added.

Not sure why people have such a downer on LA. I can only put it down to peoples lack of planning or imagination.

I've posted this before, but I'll post it again. I do like LA and have been many times and there is lots to do. Here is a list of where I've been on past visits:

Griffith Park Observatory
LA Zoo
Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery (Marilyn Monroe, Donna Reed, Dean Martin, Natalie Wood, Roy Orbison, Jack Lemmon, Walter Matthau, George C. Scott, Burt Lancaster, Truman Capote)
Venice Beach & Santa Monica Pier
Newport Beach
Hollywood Sign
La Brea Tar Pits
Knotts Berry Farm
The Petersen Automotive Museum
LA Farmers Market
Movie stars homes tours (by car, bus or Segway)
Beverly Hills
Mulholland Drive
Rodeo Drive
Universal Studios
Disneyland
Six Flags Magic Mountain
Sprinkles Cup Cakes
High Voltage Tattoo (where they film LA ink)
Getty Center
El Pueblo de Los Angeles
Grauman's Chinese Theatre & Hollywood and Highland
Annual Feast of San Gennaro (date dependant)
Crossroads of the World
Movie Studio Tours(Warner Bros. Sony & Paramount do these)
Angels Flight (currently closed)
Bradbury Building (where they filmed Blade Runner)
Pasadena Rose Bowl Flea Market
Solvang & Neverland Ranch
Santa Barbara Pier
The Queen Mary

For entertainment

Walt Disney Concert Hall
The Hollywood Bowl
The Viper Room
The Troubadour

And for Shopping

Camarillo Outlets
Citadel Outlets
Westfield Century City
Westfield Mall Culver City
The Grove

Hand luggage only, 20kg is £50 extra per person.

Flight only is £332 (on cheapest dates) from Norwegian.

Los angeles to Las Vegas took me about 4 hours, and 7 nights for this trip is perfect. We did a very casual 14 day drive down the from San francisco, down the coast stopping at numerous places before going across to Vegas - this was a very small part of the overall journey

Another great find Stacey!

you can do LA in 2 days?
Your joking, I went for 5 nights & barely scratched the surface.

While £580 seems a good price, there are hidden charges
There is no hold baggage included for example.
+ there may be hidden expenses to upgrade your insurance liability to more than collision waiver.

Personally, I would skip out the Vegas part.
Its still good value for staying at the Queen Mary Hotel + hilton + flights
You will need the car if your in Long beach.

I would skip LA and take the route to Yosemite and Tahoe far nicer and better experience in my opinion than LA. I have spent a lot of time in the West, I will probably goe at some point to take my little one to Disney but will not step out of Orange County, if you want the beach San Diego is better, Hollywood is a dump. If you want any info only my trips let me know be a pleasure to share. Oh Tenaya Lodge i. Yosemite whilst pricey is probably my favourite hotel in the world.

Far nicer places in the USA to go than Southern California if you prefer scenery over concrete and scrubland. Unfortunately its a regular destination trip having relatives to see.

Fantastic

Totally agree - if you're going to go to Vegas just the once, you should do it properly, Depending on your dates, you can get a room at Luxor/Excalibur for less than $50 a night and get to experience the real bonkersness of The Strip

Snap - we went for 11 nights last summer (our third trip) and we're doing the same again next year. Last year we only left the Strip once but never got close to being bored! There's so much to do and see

Gotta hit the old vegas - well worth a visit.

I had the best customer service from a dining point of view on Fermont St.
Lady took our orders, including drinks, brought everything & placed them infront of the correct person.
She didn't write anything down & the place was packed - we had to wait an hour just to be seated.

We've been down to Fremont Street on previous visits - I agree it's definitely worth a visit if you've got the time, plenty of fun to be had!

My wife and I did our honeymoon in California in the summer doing the coast mainly.

San Fran - Carmel - Cambria - Santa Barbara - LA - San Diego - Vegas

Got to say out of all of the places we visited LA and Vegas were my least favourite. Glad we visited and spent time there, but have no interest in going back. Santa Monica (where we stayed) is nice and saw quite a bit (including the Hoff filming on Venice Beach) but won't go back.

Having said that...heat for the price! We paid more than that for flights alone
