BA best price guarantee

I went direct with BA (for peace of mind) - managed to get over £100 refunded as omega flights had the same flights on for less.

Personally flying long haul flights almost every year of my life, BA isn't really special any more. Their planes can be older, their service is strict and rush rush for economy passengers and their cost saving does make a difference in the experience of the flight .e.g. no snacks given with drinks, crappy plastic folks with meals.

With the same destination I would be happy to pay the extra £10-£20 extra for someone like Virgin. Their service is very good, the planes are clean and well maintained and overall nothing to complain about.

Unless you understand about fare buckets and airline ticketing you can very likely get caught out by this.

The BA best price guarantee will work on exactly like for like tickets.

Many third parties ticketing agents will fail to disclose the fare bucket until you have bought the ticket. Worse still some of these third parties have access to consolidator fares which the airline will not sell directly on their website. So two economy tickets is not enough detail to understand whether the best price guarantee will work, and BA will try to avoid paying a price guarantee if they can.

In summary.
It is always better to book direct with the airline. If anything goes wrong with your trip plans having a third party between you and the airline will complicate things.
Pay the price you are willing to pay for your tickets. If you can leverage a best price guarantee so much the better but don't make your purchase on that basis. Consider it a bit like cashback - it might not materialise.

you're right, I fly with BA and I can say their service is gone down.

Call flight centre and they'll price match ANY flight departing from the UK as long as it's through a UK based company that's ATOL protected. I've used them for years. You just need a full screenshot of the fare you're trying to get matched - I've managed to get lots of cheap long haul flights that were through random little companies I've never heard of matched.

I have to agree. Recently flew with BA to Singapore just because they were half the price of Singapore Airlines, Emirates etc. - and it showed. It was legitimately like long-haul EasyJet. The seat itself was extremely uncomfortable, as though it had no padding. For the price I paid I can't complain, but I would definitely not pay a premium for BA, they are no longer a premium airline in my opinion.

They are nothing less then premium except in economy seats. And in economy, as you have found out the prices are rock bottom.

You cant pay nothing and expect to have the service you used to have on an economy seat 10yrs ago or expect to get first class or club world levels in a seat that is often 25% of the cost!

I often fly club world for work and its 100% better then it was 10 - 15 yrs ago. Though some routes where low cost is the main selling point they do use older planes.

However, Emirates also use the densest seating config. on those routes. Lots of the Virgin flights still use 747 Jumbos from the early 90s!

Virgin? I flew Virgin once on a return to Cancun as it was the cheapest flight I could find to Central America. The 'food' wasn't what I would call food. It was just tiny sandwiches that were rank through the whole flight. At least with BA they serve hot food and if you wait to the end they will give you another meal if you ask politely from what has not been served. BA has gone down hill but so have their prices. I fly with them to and from BKK twice a year. I agree Cathy, Thai, Eva, etc are better but their prices are much more.

I hadn't realised that. Now I know I will do that.Many thanks.

Booked a BA flight LHR to JFK on Omega, £100 less than BA site, hoping all goes well.

We looked at BA best price small print and decided too many get out clauses
