They haven’t, BA run these promos often quarterly though. I’m unsure if there is a maximum purchase per year.

Plenty, I've only been back a week. My flight was full. Airport was busy, hotel busy.
Lots of people still wanting to get away.

Your avios don’t expire, you can buy now for a future trip, coupled with the current BA sale you can get some absolutely amazing offers.
chamelion31/08/2020 00:31

Probably people that spell it "flies"

I bet you feel big now don't you?
Never BA again after the fiasco of hiding the option to get refund back after flights cancellation... offering only vouchers.

They do expire after 36 months if you don't earn or spend any in that time....but you do get warning emails

Good point, I didn’t know that but 3 years is a long enough time. I personally use these to upgrade from premium to business, it can work out very cheap on long haul routes. Roughly 25000 avios to upgrade London to the West coast of America on a peak fare.

Said the fly "let us flee". Said the flea "let us fly"
Check if it is cheaper to buy through Iberia rather than BA; may require a non UK address. The points can later be transferred between accounts of the same person as long as both are at least 6 months old.

You don’t need to earn/spend via flights, so not too difficult to avoid expiry. In my case I have an Avios points card. But you can also buy something for a few Avios if you haven’t. Or transfer from Tesco/etc.

Yeah I just buy everything I can through executive club rather than TCB etc, can pretty much upgrade for free then. Give or take.

Buy the goods through tcb and convert the money to avios!

Haha forward thinking I like it!
BA ran this offer back in May. I used it to buy avios and then used those to upgrade from Premium Economy to Business from Heathrow to Dubai at 26,000 each way and saving about £400 after taxes. You still get the tier points from the original fare class. The PE to Business upgrade tends to be the best value

That’s the best thing to do, I usually buy premium fares in the sale and always upgrade to business for roughly 25k points. Premium return fares Grant you 10k points roughly anyway ( long haul ) so it isn’t even a lot to top up if you repeat this process. Well worth it if you’re doing long haul. BA short haul business isn’t worth even upgrading.

Re: 'BA short haul business isn’t worth even upgrading' for the extra 4000 avios each way, you get lounge access, free meals and drinks including champagne...Admittedly if you are Silver or above it may be less attractive

True say, good point, I meant in terms of seat, in that sense it’s literally a slightly larger leather seat. The lounge access and free meals would indeed be worth the 4K avios I agree.

There is also of course, the middle seat kept free and twice the luggage allowance.

I’d rather have the 8k avios

It's not free though as you have to pay taxes/fees and then if you converted through TCB you could have taken supermarket vouchers etc which have a better uplift. I certainly would compare BA365 to TCB to see what a purchase costs you.
I want a return ticket to Dubai in Feb, including luggage this would cost £360 in economy in the current sale. If I purchase Avios + pay the £100 supplement the same return ticket would cost me £675. Why is this a good deal?

You arent comparing the same ticket per se. The ticket you would be buying is non-refundable and non-changeable where as avios tickets are both of the above for a small fee.

When coronavirus was newish me and my other half were sposed to be going to japan in ba buis she got spooked cos of the virus and all the reason we were going were being halted so i paid £70 and cancelled my avios flights and got all my miles back. If it had been a cash ticket i would have lost thousands of pounds.

Also purchasing avios is not the way to go this deal is only worthwhile if you are topping up an account for example.
Special offers = BA is looking for you to put money into their bank account while they are struggling.

Whether they still exist or honour Avios when we all want to go flying remains to be seen

Pay on a c/c and if they dont honour the points then submit a sect 75 chargeback.

Given that IAG have announced they are gonna break even in this quarter i dont see BA going down the pan anytime soon.

BA will be alright, the gov would bail them id imagine. That being said I don’t see them going bust anyway.

I have more than half a million unspent Avios and am worried about the airline talking about its fight for survival through this winter so I won’t be investing further in any Avios for the moment. If they go into administration or something They won’t honour any Avios I’m almost certain. I’m not deliberately BA bashing by the way, I have family that work there. On a related note....What are the second best ways of spending Avios rather than flying?

I honestly have no idea about spending them elsewhere, I have only ever really used them for upgrades. I obviously know youre nervous with a large amount of avios banked but I highly doubt BA will go under. They’ll be bailed by the government in a worst case scenario.
Do bear in mind, that BA and Avios are separate companies - but they are part of IAG Group.

Also another big threat is devaluation if you are buying speculatively...
