In Hong Kong now. Avoid wearing black or white and be prepared for MTR and bus strikes and delays at any time and avoid travelling during weekends near areas of demonstrations.

Just off the 792M bus from TKO. Journey was 2 hrs long, normally 30mins.

I live in Seoul, but Hong Kong is possibly my favourite city in East Asia. Fascinating clash of cultures, new and old, etc.

I'm transiting through Hong Kong Airport next week (Wednesday) - and and just 1 hour and 40 minutes at the airport before my flight to London.

Do you think it would be worth my while trying to change my flight?

EDIT: Stay safe!!!

I think you are ok. I don't think there are any planned strikes for next week by airport staff. Check with your airline.

Hopefully everything will be back to normal tomorrow. Have to go to KT to collect my daughters ID card.

Thanks - travelling with Cathay Pacific so hopefully all will be fine!
Also in Hong Kong and agree with above don't wear black or white t shirts , I went to tuen mun shopping area today which is further away from the main areas like tst , causeway and central ect and alot of places where closed and full of protesting also.
I think the strikes are for today , but you never know what tomorrow will bring.

Anyways price is good heat added.
Went to HK before it was handed over and loved it. Have always wondered how it compares now to then.

You can buy a ticket for one of 176 cancelled BA flights. Cold. To expensive for cancelled flight.
Hong Kong one of my fav places to visit and would love to go back but 90% of my wardrobe is black or white.
Hong Kong is good, its also a good Hub to hop somewhere else if you can get cheap Flights at the time, expensive Place to be though if your a Vistitor compared to a lot of Asia, be prepared to spend at least around double to what you think you may want to be spending.

Going back on the 15th - keep us posted ...
would love to return, we stayed at the InterContinental Hong Kong, loved waking up to the view across Victoria harbour
Make sure you get flight cancelation insurance and stuff. The strikes going on there might mean your flight can be cancelled. Most likely not but theres bound to be 1 day in those months.

I used to live in Tuen Mun at the ferry pier. Worked on the new airport from 1995~2001. Great times.

Tuen Mun ~~~ that is far from Central, I lived in Tsing Yi when I was in HK before moving to UK and one time my family took a taxi home in late 80s and driver wasn't happy going there and he used radio to tell other drivers that he is on his way to Midway Island and won't see him for while. But now everyone say Tsing Yi is good because not far Kowloon and HK island.

I had a pal that lived in Tsing Yi. I chose Tuen Mun as a practical option. Rents were significantly cheaper and everything I needed was to be found locally. Then the company boat only took 15 minutes from Tuen Mun to Chek Lap Kok. There was a bit of negativity from some colleagues about living in Tuen Mun but I preferred living as a local to be honest. Bought myself a motorcycle and then distance was no object.
I'm living here for the next year, today was the big strike so delays and everything were expected. Although some stupid people can't seem to comprehend why they got delayed today, blaming the protesters for wasting their time.
I'd say it's still pretty good to visit, just make sure you're not in one of the demonstration areas on the days they're gonna do it, unless it's something you want to be a part of. I've been out to causeway bay and central this weeks and not faced issues in the day time, just do your research before you go out. Don't wear black or white at the protests unless you know what side you're with (probably black I guess) if you are picking a side that is.
The shopping here has everything, there's so many good food places, you can go for hikes up dragon-back, lion rock or the peak, but it's really hot and humid at the moment so be prepared!

Nice. Good for you
Great find, having a wee look for 4th nov for 13 nights from Glasgow, decent!!!!
Prices low because of the political turmoil. Bargain but increased risks
This is clearly someone's idea of a joke...

Strikes with BA combined with demonstrations in an Asian city; what Couldn't possibly go wrong here at £400 a pop ?

You know the weather is generally cyclical through the year right, don't need a crystal ball for that lol

Exactly. I went there a few years ago and loved it but would avoid right now
Spent 2 weeks there on a work trip. Absolutely loved the culture, food and bustling streets. Would even consider living there for a bit!
Stayed at Harbour Plaza Metropolis, next to Victoria Harbour, MTR on doorstep, absolutely love HK. Can't wait to go again.
We stayed at the Park Hotel. Don't know if it's still there
How many BA tier points is this? Might be worth the drive to Manchester etc for the extra 80...

LOLz. I went 15 years ago and loved it... I thought the same and I always look at the property prices in any country if I pass an estate agents. At that time a house was about £10m starting price. I found out most residents who work in Hong Kong live on the surrounding islands.
The thing I found totally surreal was it was a city but it's a subtropical location. So instead of pigeons and starlings there were multi coloured budgies just eating off the street, there's loads of small park areas with parrots and macaws in the trees and they fly just a few feet above your head if you sit down for 10 mins. And if you take a walk up the hill / mountain into the expensive houses they're worth a look but there was either an eagle or some massive birds living in that area.
