Said this a few times but don't use this on ANY Japanese knives

IMO this is a great sharpener.

Great for this price, HOT!

Brilliant price IF you're using it on **** knives. Don't use it on anything expensive and you can't go wrong.

I've got a version of this and they are brilliant. By far the beat knife sharpener there is.

£16.06 on Amazon... Bargain

Useless. As mentioned before. I've got one (for £10) and bring myself to bin it. But would never use it again. For £6 you can buy, try and bin.

I couldn't agree more. OK on a boat or a camp kitchen for putting a quick edge on a cheap knife but for sharpening knives at home and getting them really sharp. give me a stone.

havent tried this before but seems they have vgood reviews. why everyone says not to try on decent knives?

Because decent knives cost a lot of money usually. Use one of these and all it does is rip and hack an ad-hoc serration onto the blade - sure, it'll cut, but it'll be on it's way out straight away. I have one of these, used it on mediocre knives, ended up putting it in the bottom of a drawer. I now use a Lansky four rod turn box for around £20 or so which gives an accurate profile and gets a knife so sharp within minutes that you can shave with it. Plus the edge lasts because it isn't hacked into the blade, it is clean and tidy.

As others have said, I wouldn't use this on decent knives because it takes off a LOT of metal

However, I would definitely buy something like this if you like to go on self-catering holidays: take it along and you'll never have to deal with blunt knives again.

A similar alternative which I think is superior (although not as good a deal) is the Accusharp. It's also a bit lighter for taking in your luggage

cheers

I have said it before and I will ( you can't stop me) again...cheap knifes + this little baby is all you need. My knives are cheapo ones from M&S, Ikea ,and goodness knows, but they are all sharp, sharp, sharp!

I use one of these and the proper stones, as this is a clone of a much more expensive system

I have one of these and use it quiet a lot, I agree with everything posted. A great product for sharpening up cheap, crap knifes, don't use this on good ones.
